Join us and help run what runs the world.This position reports to:Chapter Lead__ABB Electrification's Smart Power Division is seeking a Customer Application Engineer to develop innovative critical power and building electrification solutions for the North American market. In this role, you will bridge our R&D team and customers by designing, developing, and validating applications that meet market demands. You'll drive customer-focused innovation, support new product development, and help position ABB as a leader in data center power solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesApplication Development – Develop applications and solutions for critical power and building electrification; create training materials, value propositions, and marketing communicationsCustomer Engagement – Collect and understand customer requirements from US-based OEMs; conduct market intelligence and competitive analysis to inform product strategyCross-Functional Leadership – Coordinate with internal ABB teams (R&D, Product Management, Digital) to execute business plans and develop dedicated customer solutionsValidation & Testing – Support application testing, validation, and optimization to ensure quality and performanceSolution Consulting – Help customers identify optimal solutions for their projects and ensure seamless customer journey experiences (e.g., application configurators)Market Strategy – Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory standards; recommend strategic adjustments for long and mid-term planningIndustry Collaboration – Participate in national and international standardization committeesDigital Marketing Support – Contribute to application-related digital marketing campaigns and initiativesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred)Technical understanding with willingness to continuously learn and acquire new competenciesExperience with CAD design (3D, 2D, and BOMs) and PLM software (Windchill)Experience in product development and new product introductionStrong understanding of electrical systems; ability to read, understand, and design electrical diagramsAgile mindset with experience in agile working environmentsNegotiation, market knowledge, leadership, and strong interpersonal skillsAbility to travel domestically up to 20% of the timePreferred QualificationsMaster's degree in EngineeringSecond language proficiencyKnowledge of NEC codes (NEC 700, 701, 702) and electrical design standardsFamiliarity with Uptime Institute Tier design and ANSI/TIA-942-A ratingsExperience with ANSI/BICSI 002 levels or similar electrical distribution design requirementsKnowledge of UL standards (UL67, UL891, UL508/508a, UL489)Data center power systems experienceWhat's in it for you We want you to bring your full self to work—your ideas, your energy, your ambition.
