Senior Engineering Technologist - Substation Relay

Role summary / purpose

Senior Engineering Technologist to support outage coordination at the Energy Control Center, focusing on writing detailed switching instructions for de-energizing transmission lines, identifying sources of back feed, and ensuring safety for field crews.

Key responsibilities

• Write detailed switching instructions for de-energizing transmission lines
• Identify sources of back feed
• Ensure safety protocols for field crews
• Support outage coordination activities

Requirements - education & experience

• Substation or relay field experience
• Utility industry experience (essential)
• Experience writing switching procedures or guidelines
• Familiarity with major substation equipment: Breakers, Disconnects, Transformers, PT/CCVTs, CTs

Required skills

• Ability to read one-line/single line diagrams
• Familiarity with relay schemes (high level functionality): Differential, Step-Distance, Pilot/Carrier/Communication assisted schemes
• Familiarity with iTOA
• Familiarity with written switching instructions and procedures

Employment details - type, location, hours

Primarily based at the Energy Control Center with limited field visits. On-site work expected with some hybrid flexibility allowed. Various work schedules supported based on individual preference (5x8s, 4x10s, 4x9s).
