Position Overview The Head Greenkeeper is responsible for the comprehensive care, performance, and presentation of all turf and turf-related assets across a prestigious private oceanfront estate. This role oversees approximately six acres of meticulously maintained lawn, a large and complex irrigation system, and specialty turf areas including a tennis court and croquet court. The position requires deep technical expertise, hands-on execution, and a strong understanding of turf health in a coastal New England environment. Seasonal Structure This position operates on a primary 10-month main season focused on full turf and grounds management. During the remaining two months, responsibilities may transition to assist facilities support and general facility management, ensuring continuity of care and operational excellence year‑round. Key Responsibilities Turf & Grounds Management Manage all aspects of turf care across approximately six acres of mowed lawn Maintain specialty turf surfaces including tennis and croquet courts Execute mowing, fertilization, aeration, overseeding, and seasonal programs Develop turf management strategies suited to coastal Maine conditions Irrigation Systems Oversee operation and optimization of a large-scale irrigation system Diagnose, repair, and maintain pumps, valves, heads, and controls Adjust irrigation schedules based on weather and soil conditions Pest, Disease & Soil Health Identify and treat turf pests, diseases, and weeds Apply fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides in compliance with regulations Monitor soil health and implement corrective programs Equipment Operation & Maintenance Operate all grounds and turf equipment safely Perform routine maintenance and minor mechanical repairs Coordinate major servicing and repairs as required Planning & Coordination Maintain exceptional standards of organization and safety Track maintenance schedules and material usage Coordinate with estate leadership and facilities teams Qualifications & Experience Proven experience in turf management or greenkeeping Strong knowledge of turfgrass science, irrigation, and pest control Mechanical aptitude with grounds equipment Ability to work independently and maintain high standards Valid driver's license; pesticide applicator license preferred or willingness to obtain Personal Attributes Detail-oriented with pride in craftsmanship Professional, reliable, and discreet Strong work ethic and proactive mindset Comfortable with physically demanding outdoor work Certifications are preferred #J-18808-Ljbffr Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA)
