School NurseAdministers nursing care to ill, injured, or disabled students; consults with families and medical professionals to coordinate student care; provides professional development and develops networking with area agencies to promote health services for students; assesses student health needs, develops, and implements nursing care plans and emergency medical plans, and maintains medical records; serves as the health specialist as a member of the educational team to assist in evaluating and planning programs for students.Supervisor: Building AdministratorQualifications: LPN, RN, CSN Licensed with the Illinois Division of Financial and Professional RegulationSalary: Per Certification and determined by LEA (Starting at $52,657) or LEFA (Starting at $37.32/hr.) FLSA Status: ExemptDuties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional Support and OrganizationProvide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students in response to the nursing assessmentAssess the health and safety needs of the school environmentFollows an established communicable disease prevention and control program in cooperation with local and state public health agenciesParticipates in the development of health-related policies and procedures in compliance with state mandates and current health practicesAdministers medication with appropriate documentation per policies and procedures and within the confines of the Illinois Nurse Practice ActProvides nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff as requiredPerforms duties that may include, but are not limited to, trach care, G-tube feeding/oral feeding, catheterization, ostomy care, diapering/toileting, and positioning/liftingMakes appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporterMaintains accurate, detailed reports, and medical records including School-Based MedicaidUtilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of dutiesCommunicationInitiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies, and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community in compliance with federal and state confidentiality requirementsMaintains communication with the school nurses, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardiansProfessional ResponsibilitiesAssumes responsibility for professional growth by participating in professional development activitiesMaintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnelResponds professionally to feedbackDemonstrates regular on-site attendancePerforms other duties as assigned by administrators.The above statements are intended to describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
