Position Summary The Interventional Radiology Technologist is responsible for all aspects of diagnostic and interventional procedures performed in the Specials Suite. This includes operating fluoroscopy and digital imaging equipment, positioning patients, troubleshooting equipment, and providing excellent patient care in coordination with the clinical team. The role also involves care‑charge entry, inventory management, and maintaining professional judgment according to the ARRT Code of Ethics and St. David’s values. Principal Responsibilities Technologist Responsibilities Operate and position fluoroscopy and digital imaging equipment efficiently. Pan tables to accurately visualize requested views. Identify anatomical orientation on images and ensure proper film identification. Provide patient care and maintain clear communication with the team. Recognize changes in patients’ physical and mental status and inform nurse or radiologist. Set up and operate the ultrasound unit and send images to PACS. Complete lab and micro orders for specimens collected during procedures. Scrub Tech Clinical Skills Operate the power injector safely and adhere to guidelines. Perform scrub role during invasive procedures, including assisting physicians, anticipating needs, and maintaining sterile technique. Manage procedure wires and catheters and select appropriate products. Remove sheaths and apply pressure to achieve hemostasis. Label all fluids and medications per policy. Safety and Compliance Practices Confirm patient identity with two identifiers and an ID band. Execute a procedural pause on all exams, verify orders, and ensure correctness. Secure medications and sharps at all times. Use EMAR for chemicals, medications, and contrast. Administer contrast per medication and contrast policies. Practice the five rights of medication administration. Complete risk management reporting for medication or adverse events. Follow venipuncture guidelines and complete approval processes. Conduct fall assessment for patients and secure them properly. Mark sites and perform time‑outs before invasive procedures. Adhere to radiation safety practices, including ALARA principles and pregnancy screening. Document and report any complications such as extravasation or radiation exposure above 60 minutes. Follow infection control policies and protocol for patient transport. Prepare for patient arrest or critical events and maintain code readiness. Perform daily crash cart checks and monitor equipment. Clinical Responsibilities in Specials Complete all OR module entries during or immediately after the procedure. Ensure documentation is reviewed and exams are moved to PACS. Prepare patients, obtain orders and consents. Verify accurate charging of procedures and assist with charging supplies. Track implant devices and inventory stock annually. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Integrity and Professionalism Work independently, solve problems effectively, and explore alternatives. Maintain equipment function and perform daily QC checks. Support recruitment, training, and performance feedback for team members. Report to work on time and ready for assignments. Respond to rotating calls and arrive promptly. Attend staff meetings or obtain meeting information when absent. Execute other duties or tasks as requested. Respect in Patient Interactions Use AIDET in all exam interactions. Explain procedures to patients and families to facilitate cooperation. Document patient education and maintain privacy and dignity. Utilize service recovery processes when necessary. Communicate with nurses and charge technologists to ensure efficient workflow. Compassionate Care Volunteer for odd or extra shifts when workload or absence warrants. Participate in efficient room turnover. Job Requirements Graduate of an American Medical Association‑approved program in Radiologic Technology. Associate’s degree preferred. 6‑12 months of related experience, with preference for angiography and therapeutic intervention laboratory. Licensing and Certification Required MRT Texas Medical Radiologic Technologist Certificate or temporary equivalent. Certified in Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT or RTR). ARRT Vascular‑Interventional or Cardiac Interventional Radiology preferred.
