Job Description Job Title: Mechanical Engineer IV Location: Sunnyvale, CA Zip Code: 94089 Duration: 6 Months Pay Rate: $78.43/hr. Responsibilities Develop packaging concepts, structural designs, and detailed specifications for consumer electronics devices from early concept through mass production (EVT/DVT/PVT builds). Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, and dielines for retail packaging components (corrugated cartons, folding cartons, inserts, trays, etc.). Collaborate cross-functionally with Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability, Graphic Design, and Supplier Quality teams to deliver packaging solutions that meet product protection, brand, cost, and sustainability goals. Partner with packaging suppliers (domestic and international) on design development, material selection, prototyping, tooling, and production readiness. Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) creation and updates in PLM systems (e.g., Agile) for packaging components across product builds. Plan and execute packaging validation testing per ISTA and Client‑specific test protocols; analyze results and drive design revisions as needed. Support pack‑out activities and provide on‑site engineering support during build events. Generate and maintain packaging specifications, dimensional drawings, and material callouts. Identify opportunities for cost reduction, material optimization, and sustainability improvements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field. 3+ years of professional experience in structural packaging design/development for consumer electronics or similar industries. Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent). Experience with retail packaging materials and manufacturing processes (folding carton, corrugated, molded pulp/fiber, foam, thermoform, etc.). Working knowledge of ISTA and/or ASTM packaging test protocols. Experience managing packaging through product development lifecycles (concept prototype mass production). Preferred Qualifications Experience in consumer electronics packaging at a major OEM or contract manufacturer. Familiarity with PLM/BOM systems (e.g., Agile, Windchill). Knowledge of sustainable packaging materials, design‑for‑recyclability, and regulatory requirements. Experience with packaging for global markets (regional labeling, regulatory, and localization requirements). Familiarity with print and color management processes (Pantone, G7, proofing workflows). Strong vendor management skills with international packaging suppliers. Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
