Ophelia Tavern & Bar Top are coming to The Dale in Avondale Estates, and we're building an exceptional Opening Team to bring two distinct but connected hospitality experiences to life.

Ophelia Tavern will be a refined neighborhood gathering place serving Italian-inspired comfort food in a welcoming, no-fuss atmosphere. The menu features Italian tavern classics, including pizzas crisped in 600-degree ovens, fresh pastas tossed in scratch-made sauces, juicy house-ground burgers, thoughtfully prepared entrées and salads, and plenty of small plates made for sharing. With inviting indoor and patio seating, Ophelia pairs its food with handcrafted cocktails, a whiskey-forward bar program featuring a focus on Old Fashioneds, along with a well-rounded selection of beer and wine.

Located upstairs, Bar Top adds another dimension to the Ophelia experience. The rooftop bar features a spacious covered patio overlooking the Town Green at The Dale, a cozy indoor bar, fireplace, and private event space. Bar Top's menu features classic cocktails, creative mocktails, light bites, a wide selection of local draft and bottled beers, and curated wines.

We're looking for experienced, energetic, and hospitality-driven Servers who know how to create a memorable dining experience from the moment a guest sits down until the moment they leave. At Ophelia Tavern, serving is about much more than taking an order. Our Servers will be expected to know the menu, understand our beverage program, anticipate guest needs, confidently make recommendations, and work together with the entire team to create the kind of experience that turns first-time guests into regulars. If you're comfortable in a busy full-service restaurant, genuinely enjoy taking care of people, and understand that great hospitality is equal parts personality, knowledge, timing, and teamwork, we'd love to meet you.

What We're Looking For

Previous full-service restaurant experience is strongly preferred.

Our strongest candidates will bring:

• Previous serving experience in a high-volume, full-service restaurant, tavern, or similar environment
• Friendly, outgoing, and genuine hospitality-focused personality
• Ability to confidently guide guests through a full food and beverage menu
• Strong food and beverage knowledge or a willingness to learn
• Experience with suggestive selling and making thoughtful recommendations
• Ability to describe menu items naturally rather than simply reading ingredients from a menu
• Strong understanding of proper steps of service
• Excellent multitasking, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple tables while maintaining attentive service
• Ability to remain composed and professional during high-volume periods
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Dependability, punctuality, and professional appearance
• Team-first mentality and willingness to support Servers, Bartenders, Hosts, Server Assistants, Kitchen Staff, and Management
• Flexible availability, particularly evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events

Position Responsibilities

As a Server at Ophelia Tavern, you will help create the guest experience through knowledgeable, attentive, and genuine hospitality.

Responsibilities include:

• Warmly greet guests and create a welcoming experience from the beginning of service
• Guide guests through the Ophelia Tavern food and beverage menus with confidence
• Explain ingredients, preparation methods, flavors, and portion sizes when appropriate
• Make thoughtful recommendations based on guest preferences
• Confidently suggest appetizers, small plates, entrées, pizzas, pastas, desserts, cocktails, beer, and wine
• Maintain knowledge of menu ingredients, preparation methods, modifications, and potential allergens
• Properly communicate food allergies and dietary concerns according to company procedures
• Take accurate food and beverage orders and enter them promptly into the POS system
• Follow proper steps of service while adapting to the individual needs and pace of each table
• Monitor tables throughout the dining experience and anticipate guest needs
• Deliver food and beverages accurately and efficiently
• Maintain appropriate table maintenance throughout the meal
• Pre-bus and reset tables as needed
• Process guest payments accurately and responsibly
• Complete opening, running, and closing side work
• Maintain clean and organized service areas
• Communicate effectively with Bartenders, Hosts, Server Assistants, Kitchen Staff, and Managers
• Support fellow team members during high-volume service
• Assist with private events and special functions as scheduled
• Follow all responsible alcohol service guidelines and company policies
• Help ensure every guest leaves feeling genuinely welcomed and well cared for

Food, Beverage & Menu Knowledge

Our Servers are expected to become confident ambassadors of the Ophelia Tavern menu.

That means understanding not only what we serve, but how to talk about it.

Servers should be able to confidently describe our pizzas crisped in 600-degree ovens, fresh pastas and scratch-made sauces, house-ground burgers, entrées, salads, small plates, and other menu offerings in a way that helps guests make decisions.

Our beverage program is equally important.

Servers will receive training on our:

• Handcrafted cocktails
• Whiskey-forward beverage program
• Old Fashioneds and classic cocktails
• Beer selection
• Wine offerings
• Mocktails and non-alcoholic beverages
• Food and beverage pairings

You don't need to arrive knowing every bottle behind the bar—but you should be excited to learn and comfortable using that knowledge to enhance the guest experience.

Our Servers are expected to:

• Handle guest concerns professionally and involve management when appropriate
• Represent Ophelia Tavern with professionalism, personality, and genuine hospitality

Our goal is polished service without making the experience feel formal or stuffy.

Ophelia Tavern, Bar Top & Private Events

While Ophelia Tavern will be the primary full-service dining experience, our team will be part of a larger hospitality environment.

Located upstairs, Bar Top features a spacious covered rooftop patio overlooking the Town Green, a cozy indoor bar, fireplace, and private event space.

The Bar Top menu features classic cocktails, creative mocktails, light bites, local draft and bottled beers, and curated wines, creating a more social and relaxed rooftop experience. Our upstairs private event space will also allow us to host celebrations, corporate gatherings, social events, and other special occasions. Depending on business needs and scheduling, Servers may have opportunities to work private events, special functions, and service associated with Bar Top, making flexibility and teamwork especially important. Private events can require a different style of service than a traditional restaurant shift, so we're looking for team members who can comfortably adapt while maintaining the same hospitality standards throughout the entire property.

Schedule & Availability

Our anticipated operating schedule is:

Monday – Friday: Approximately 4:00 PM until Close
Saturday & Sunday: Potentially 11:00 AM until Close
Tentative Closing Time: Approximately 10:00 PM

Operating hours are currently tentative and may change as we finalize opening plans and determine the needs of the restaurant.

Because this is an Opening Team, applicants should have flexibility for:

• Dinner shifts
• Evening availability
• Weekday availability
• Weekend day and evening shifts

• Holidays
• Private events and special functions
• Training before opening
• Additional hours or schedule adjustments as business needs develop
