RN, Critical Care Nurse Clinician

Job Summary: A highly skilled registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center who is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients being seen and treated at Erlanger. Serves as a clinical resource to nursing, medical, and ancillary staff. Responds to in house codes, Rapid Response Alerts, Code Strokes, Code STEMI's and assists with transferring critically ill patients to the ICU. Responsible for rapidly triaging patients to determine treatment options. Coordinate with physicians on plan of care in an attempt to facilitate care and decrease in-house codes. Will use effective and constructive communication skills to convey evidence based practice at the bedside. May act as a project lead for department objectives and/or process improvement. May provide input and facilitates implementation of the emergency department's goals and objectives. Assist with orientation, competencies, and continuing education for staff. Actively participates in the evaluation of clinical staff under the direction of unit leadership. Participates in regular staff meetings and assists with recruitment and retention of clinical staff.

Education: Required: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Experience: Required: Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience in adult ICU and/or adult ED. Evidence of leadership abilities required. Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills; knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of nursing; and applicable knowledge of those areas requiring special education. Preferred: Previous case management, quality improvement and/or discharge planning experience.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee. De-escalation training. BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) certification and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months Certification by specialty within 1 year of exam eligibility for area of practice The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents. Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) instructor. Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) instructor or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) instructor.
