The Regulatory Affairs Specialist will create and manage compliant product packaging labels for food products such as cake and donut mixes, ensuring full alignment with state and federal regulations. This role focuses on accurate ingredient declarations, allergen labeling, and nutrition facts panel generation, while supporting the R&D team to ensure new recipes and formulas meet all regulatory requirements for target markets. The specialist will actively research and interpret regulatory guidelines, monitor changes in the regulatory landscape, and use Genesis software and data tools to maintain high standards of food labeling compliance.

Responsibilities

• Create and develop product packaging labels for food products, including cake and donut mixes, ensuring all information is clear, accurate, and compliant.

• Understand product formulations and list ingredients by weight in order of predominance in accordance with regulatory requirements.

• Ensure all product labels comply with internal policies as well as state and federal regulations, including specific rules for states such as California and federal FDA regulations.

• Manage allergen declarations by correctly identifying and labeling all nine FDA-recognized allergens to support food safety.

• Generate nutrition facts panels using product recipes, performing the necessary mathematical calculations to ensure accuracy.

• Collaborate with the R&D team to ensure new recipes and formulas meet regulatory requirements for target markets, including ingredient restrictions and limits, prior to product development.

• Research and interpret relevant sections of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and other regulatory resources to confirm compliance for existing and new products.

• Monitor the regulatory landscape in the food industry by staying informed about upcoming changes through newsletters, regulatory websites, and proactive research.

• Use Genesis software to create, manage, and validate product labels and nutrition information.

• Work with data tools and MS Excel to organize, analyze, and maintain regulatory and labeling information.

• Support continuous improvement of labeling processes by identifying potential compliance risks and recommending updates to labeling standards and practices.

Essential Skills

• B.S. degree in a scientific discipline.

• 3–8 years of experience in food regulatory affairs, specifically focused on food labeling (5–8 years preferred, but candidates with less experience will be considered).

• Hands-on experience with Genesis software for label creation and nutrition analysis.

• Strong knowledge of U.S. FDA regulations related to food products and labeling.

• Ability to identify and correctly label all nine FDA-recognized allergens.

• Proven ability to research and interpret evolving regulations using resources such as FDA websites and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).

• Capability to perform accurate mathematical calculations required for generating nutrition facts panels.

• Experience working with data and MS Excel to manage and analyze regulatory and labeling information.

• Background in regulatory affairs and label creation within the food industry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience applying Genesis software rules and guidelines to food labeling projects.

• Demonstrated ability to stay current with changing food industry regulations through newsletters and proactive regulatory research.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in ingredient listings, allergen declarations, and nutrition panels.

• Effective collaboration skills for working closely with R&D and cross-functional teams.

• Ability to interpret complex regulatory documents and translate them into practical labeling requirements.

• Comfort working with structured data and documentation to support compliance and audit readiness.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift, full-time role based fully onsite in an office setting, operating Monday through Friday during standard business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The dress code is business casual. The environment is professional and collaborative, with regular interaction with R&D and other internal teams. Genesis software, data tools, and MS Excel are core technologies used daily to manage labeling and regulatory information. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pico Rivera, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $58.00/hr.
