Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Days

Overview The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem‑patient situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision‑making and self‑direction. In addition to patient care, the RT II provides patient, family, and support system education, coordinates activities, develops staff, and engages in professional and self‑development activities. Responsibilities Provide customer service with completion of patient care, documentation, and education; promote a team spirit and positive work environment; support students and staff. Deliver quality patient care by performing patient assessment, collaborating with health‑care team members, verifying orders, administering aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, and oxygen medical gas therapy. Manage ventilators, perform weaning and waveform graphic interpretation, and conduct airway management including intubation, extubation, trach tube change, and care. Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis; educate patients and mentor new employees, students, and peers. Assist in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing as needed. Create a safe quality environment by ensuring accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging; promote patient safety initiatives and evidence‑based practice; review revised and new DPPs. Education Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with a minimum of 20 quarter hours of science. Associate's Degree (A.S.) required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Licensure & Certification Registered Respiratory Therapy (Respiratory Care Professional). Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Instructor or ACLS. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Instructor or PALS. Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) – Instructor or NRP. Experience 0–2 years of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care. Skills Strong communication, critical thinking, and relationship‑building skills with physicians and other health‑care professionals. Computer proficiency, including familiarity with databases.
