RESEARCH DATA SPECIALIST I

Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Research Data Supervisor II, the Research Data Specialist I (RDS I), is a member of the Research Unit performing a variety of research functions to support the Board of State and Community Corrections’ (BSCC’s) research mission. Research functions include evaluation of criminal and juvenile justice programs, design and implementation of special research projects, and the collection and analysis of community corrections-related data.

This position works in conjunction with Field Representatives for the four (4) BSCC divisions: Standards and Training for Corrections (STC), Corrections Planning and Grant Programs (CPGP), Facilities Standards and Operations (FSO), and the County Facilities Construction (CFC). Experience in the criminal and juvenile justice system is helpful, however not required. High-level knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel is required; tasks also require knowledge and use of Tableau, Smartsheet, R, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), and Microsoft’s Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio software.

Special Requirements

The Statement of Qualification (SOQ) is a narrative that serves as documentation of candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Responses must be no more than 1 page in length, size 12-point Arial font, and address the following questions. The questions must also be included in your SOQ submission. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation will also be factors in evaluating the SOQ.

1. Provide an example describing how you have developed training materials for internal or external stakeholders. This example must be related to an activity in your resume.
2. Provide an example of how you have collaborated across internal teams and with external stakeholders to validate data, exchange insights, and contribute to system enhancements.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Grant proposal evaluation design and implementation 
• Strong internal/external communication skills, including public presentations 
• Data collection and grant reporting for grant activities including organizing and managing research project files 
• Social science and/or criminal justice research design, literature review, and analysis
