About The Job The Control Systems Engineer is a developing role within EVO Power’s Technology team, designed for early‑career engineers with a solid foundation in software coding and development who want to apply these skills within control systems in the energy storage industry. The successful candidate will work closely with senior engineers, receive mentorship, and gain strong learning and growth opportunities in a fast‑scaling, high‑impact industry. Key Responsibilities Support the design and development of control systems tailored for battery energy storage system (BESS) applications. Assist in creating and implementing embedded software for seamless integration within electronic systems and control frameworks. Develop, program, debug PLC code using ladder logic, function block diagrams, and structured text. Support customization and configuration of PLC hardware and software to meet project requirements. Implement and troubleshoot control strategies for automated systems. Demonstrate knowledge of Object‑Oriented Programming (OOP) principles. Expose to CODESYS or similar IEC 61131‑3 compliant development platforms. Design user‑friendly HMI interfaces for monitoring and controlling industrial processes. Integrate HMI systems with PLCs for real‑time data visualization. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (electrical, mechanical) to integrate PLC systems for seamless BESS operations. Ensure communication between PLCs and other control devices (sensors, actuators, SCADA). Conduct thorough testing of PLC programs to identify and resolve errors. Troubleshoot issues related to hardware, software, and communication protocols. Maintain detailed documentation of PLC programs, configurations, and system modifications. Support creation of technical manuals and user guides for operators and maintenance personnel. Stay updated with PLC technology advancements and recommend upgrades. Perform routine maintenance and updates to PLC systems. Adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations when designing PLC systems. Ensure systems meet relevant safety standards and conduct risk assessments. Provide training and support to operators and maintenance teams on PLC systems. Contribute to continuous improvement by staying at the forefront of technological advancements in electronics and automation. Oversee execution of complex engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards. Ensure measurable improvements in system efficiency through optimized control strategies. Reduce downtime and enhance system reliability through rigorous testing. About You Qualifications & Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Skills in embedded software development and troubleshooting. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for testing, debugging, and optimizing electronic systems. Familiarity with safety protocols and industry standards, such as IEC 61508 or equivalent. Excellent documentation and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and contribute to cross‑functional teams. Desired Proven experience in PLC programming, HMI design, and system integration. Experience in the utility, renewable energy, BESS, or microgrid sectors. Experience with energy management systems, IoT platforms, SCADA, or power systems software. Exposure to regulatory frameworks and compliance relevant to energy markets (e.g., NEM, grid interconnection requirements). Familiarity with business case development, product commercialization, and roadmap ownership. MBA or further qualifications in product leadership, energy systems, or business management. Technical Skills Required Understanding of modern software development practices (APIs, modular architectures, CI/CD, DevOps principles). Ability to translate complex technical concepts into customer‑aligned product outcomes. Proficiency in backlog management tools (Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps). Knowledge of data‑driven product decision‑making (analytics, KPIs, user feedback loops). Familiarity with Cloud‑based platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Desired Knowledge of control systems, DER integration, or energy data protocols (Modbus, OPC‑UA, IEEE standards). Understanding of cybersecurity principles applicable to operational and energy systems. Working knowledge of microservices architecture and scalability considerations. Ability to interpret UX/UI best practices and collaborate with design teams. Basic technical familiarity with APIs, SQL, Python, or energy simulation tools.
