Return To Work Case Manager RN

Provides medical case management services to Grifols employees in US who are injured on the job and non-work related absences. The RN will use medical expertise combined with knowledge of the workers' compensation system to make sure that injured workers receive timely and appropriate medical treatment to promote early return to work and claims resolution. The nurse will facilitate communication and action among Grifols management, insurance carriers, physicians, and injured workers.

Primary responsibilities include: assessment and coordination of medical care related to worker's compensation injuries; managing all accepted, routine loss time claims; working closely with adjusters, medical providers, managers to ensure coordination of appropriate care to medically rehabilitate individuals injured on the job and assist with return to work goals; determining individual's fitness to return to duty; evaluating return to work concerns from a physical capability and biological risk to human or product standpoint; developing case management plans through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient's progress; evaluating patient's treatment plan for appropriateness and devising cost effective strategies for medical care; maintaining confidentiality of injured worker's medical, disability, and demographic information; creating medical records including employee medical files, industrial hygiene monitoring records, workers compensation carrier forms, disability records, medical surveillance records and logs and return to work notes; conducting medical accommodation determinations for employees needing consideration in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act; coordinating the interactive process that includes management, human resources; providing occupational health services to plasma center locations throughout the US; performing telephonic triage of injury events to determine the level of care needed for the injured worker; providing nursing care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses via symptomatic treatment, medical assessment, first aid, emergency transport, medical referrals, and appropriate follow-up and rehabilitation; serving as a rotating on call staff member for all Grifols US based operations; building strong relationship with Staff Nurse RN to integrate delivery of medical services to employees.

Additional responsibilities include: serving as lead in managing all worker's compensation cases and the ADA interactive process; responding to on site emergencies and being the lead in determining treatment needs; coordinating and managing all medical return to work cases (exclusive of FMLA); staying abreast of current changes in the field of occupational health by attending meetings or webinars hosted by a professional organization in their local area; supporting the manufacturing facilities, plasma organizations and support areas of Grifols.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include an overall understanding of occupational health; training in CPR, emergency first aid, immunology, ergonomics, and experience with OSHA requirements.

Education: Bachelors of Science or Associate Degree from a registered nursing program. State license(s) is/are also required. Experience: A minimum of 1 years (Bachelors) or 3 years (Associates) of related experience in worker's compensation case management, Occupational Health Nursing, medical assessment, emergency medical care, clinic work, and/or public health nursing. Incumbent must be licensed to practice nursing in the state of North Carolina/California (dependent on location). Extensive knowledge and understanding of the ADAA and the processes and procedures involved in the interactive process. Certification via the American Board of Occupational Health Nursing COHN-S OR COHN is preferred. Certification in case management or related specialty is preferred.

Occupational demands include: work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment; frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day; repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists; frequently walks; occasionally bends and twists neck; light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 30lbs; frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States; able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups.
