$5,176.5 per monthGO Tutor Corps
Job Description
Job Description
This position is for the 2026 - 2027 Academic Year beginning in October 2026 and ending in June 2027
GO Tutor Corps in partnership with AmeriCorps
Job Title: GO Fellow
Job Type: AmeriCorps
Location: State of Virginia
School Partners: Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School (1501 Cameron St, Alexandria, VA 22314)
Start Date: Training begins on or about September 28th and in-person tutoring will begin on October 1st.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm
JOB SUMMARY
As an in-person tutor with GO Tutor Corps, you will play a critical role in supporting students' academic success by delivering targeted, small-group instruction in Math and/or English Language Arts (ELA). In this 1,200-hour AmeriCorps service position, you will support students in grades 3–12, Monday through Friday during school hours (typically between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m), for the academic semester.
Tutors are embedded within school communities and support instruction in alignment with each school's model:
Alexandria Schools
- Support teachers within classrooms during small-group rotations in math and literacy
- Lead pull-out small groups of 3–6 students focused on targeted instruction aligned to Standards of Learning (SOL) goals
- Reinforce core instruction and support student progress on state assessments
Arlington Schools
- Provide small-group academic support (typically 2–3 students) within school-based intervention settings, such as a library or designated intervention space
- Deliver instruction using school-provided intervention materials in math and literacy
- Support students identified for targeted academic intervention
Across all sites, tutors collaborate closely with teachers and instructional coaches to align instruction with student needs and school priorities. Following training, tutors are expected to independently facilitate small-group instruction, effectively use provided curricula and materials, and maintain organized, engaging learning environments. Through consistent, high-quality support, tutors contribute directly to students' daily learning experiences and academic growth.
We are seeking dedicated, reliable tutors who are passionate about educational equity and committed to making a measurable impact on student achievement. Ideal candidates demonstrate professionalism and consistency, build strong relationships with students, adapt instruction to diverse learning needs, and engage learners through culturally responsive practices.
Tutors typically work with 3–4 students per session in a supportive learning environment, helping to strengthen core academic skills while fostering confidence and connection. This role is well-suited for individuals interested in education, mentorship, or youth development, including recent graduates and those exploring a pathway into teaching.
Tutoring schedules vary by school and may change based on partner school needs. Tutors will receive a preliminary schedule, with any adjustments communicated in advance by school leaders. In weeks when tutoring hours are reduced due to school scheduling, tutors are expected to complete remaining service hours through additional school support duties, such as assisting with testing or preparing instructional spaces.
AmeriCorps Benefits
You will earn:
- AmeriCorps living allowance (see more about this below)
- AmeriCorps Segal Education Award upon successful completion of up to $5,176.50
- Loan postponement on qualified education loans
- Valuable professional and personal experience in public education, youth development, civic-engagement, teamwork and leadership
AmeriCorps Living Allowance
The AmeriCorps Living Allowance and the number of pay cycles may vary depending on your assigned start date and location. Members who complete the Three-Quarter Time term (1,200 hours) receive a pre-tax living allowance of $24,000 for the full service year. The estimated pre-tax living allowance typically ranges from $1,000 to $1,100 in biweekly payments. Please note that the precise living allowance total and bi-weekly payment details will be clearly outlined in your offer letter and/or during the onboarding process.
