Medical Assistant-Certified, Care Team

This 1.0 FTE/Full-time position is scheduled to work 10-HR day shifts.

Compensation: Medical Assistant-Certified (Nationally Certified): Non-exempt, $26.56/HR-$37.75/HR. Medical Assistant (Washington State Certified only): Non-exempt, $24.45/HR-$34.92 Placement within this range is based on years of applicable experience.

Additional Compensation: Student Loan Repayment Assistance OR a $5,000 Sign-on Bonus; Conditions apply.

Job Summary

Serves as an integral member of the clinic care team and acts as the first point of contact for patients. Delivers exceptional customer service while coordinating care to ensure a positive patient experience. Primarily manages indirect patient care responsibilities, with the flexibility to provide direct patient care support as needed.

Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Care Duties 90%:

1. Manages inbound patient calls as directed. Resolves requests when able and escalates as needed.
2. Follows guidelines to identify and direct patients calling with emergent/urgent symptoms to appropriate clinical staff for screening.
3. Calls or fax prescriptions and handles Physician's call back on patient test results as directed.
4. Monitors various group message pools and responds to patient requests and concerns within the established organizational timelines.
5. Completes all tasks and documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
6. Coordinates population health activities as needed, including wellness visits, care gap reporting, and screenings.
7. Updates patient charts with incoming outside documentation as received.

Direct Patient Care Duties 10%:

1. Monitors and manages the flow of patients to maximize Physician's time, reduce delays, and facilitate a positive patient experience.
2. Takes initial patient history, accurately document vital signs and complaints in the patient's medical record.
3. Prepares the patient and room for examination or procedure by the physician.
4. Assists the Physician with examinations and procedures. Performs phlebotomy and necessary laboratory testing; or prepares specimens and orders outside laboratory testing. Performs radiological exams and EKG procedures, as ordered by the physician.
5. Cleans patient room after visit and after procedure. Scrubs, rinses, and places used instruments in disinfectant tray after each patient. Properly autoclaves instruments or prepare them to be autoclaved at the hospital.

Required Education and Experience

1. One year of experience working in a physician's office, preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

1. State of Washington certification as Medical Assistant Certification-required.
2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or within 180 days of hire.
3. Medical Assistants without a national certification remain eligible for 48616; Additional requirements for Medical Assistant-Certified 48617 include:

• Current State of Washington Medical Assistant-Certification, (CM)
• Current medical assistant certification through one of the following:
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • National Health Career Association (NHA)
  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Working knowledge of medical assistant functions, clinical standards, and clinic practices and procedures.
2. Ability to distinguish emergency patient situations.
3. Knowledge and understanding of age related care as needed for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients with the ability to provide patient care that is appropriate to the age and development status of the patient.
4. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical ethics
5. Strong communication skills: ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences. Ability to listen actively and respond to patients and coworkers in a timely, appropriate manner both verbally and non-verbally.
6. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with physicians, coworkers, patients, and families. Ability to present a professional, caring image and demeanor to patients and families.
7. Ability to exercise good judgment, use discretion and maintain confidentiality of privileged information and records.
8. Ability to accept responsibility, work independently, prioritize and manage time and tasks effectively. Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure.
9. Adaptability: ability to learn, understand, and navigate work processes, terminology, and computer software systems.
10. Ability to read, understand and interpret information from a variety of sources and to understand and follow moderately complex instructions.
11. Ability to perform basic math functions.
