Power Electronics Engineer

Power Electronics Engineer Concord, MA

We're looking for a highly motivated Power Electronics Engineer to join our Sensing and Communications Department in Concord, MA or Groton, CT.

You'll design and develop power electronics for a wide range of underwater maritime systems - including electromechanical actuation systems, UUV payloads, acoustic communication transceivers, motor systems, and high-power acoustic transmit arrays. Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and debug complex power electronics systems
• Travel up to 25% to support on-site testing

Required Skills

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering (power systems focus); BSEE with 4+ years or MSEE with 1+ years of relevant experience
• Full-cycle power system design: circuit analysis, simulation, component selection, schematic capture, PCB design, and verification testing
• DC/DC and AC/DC power systems from 500W to 50kW in harsh environments
• Hands-on experience with MOSFETs, Schottky Diodes, SiC FETs, and IGBTs
• Proven design experience with electromechanical actuators, DC/DC converters, power amplifiers, and magnetics
• High-availability power supplies and/or failover systems
• Proficiency with lab equipment: DMM, oscilloscope, function generator, voltage/current probes
• Basic MATLAB data analysis
• Electronics assembly experience (wiring, crimping, soldering) is a plus

Preferred Skills

• Experience designing electronics for underwater maritime systems
• Electric machine and/or drive design
• Acoustic transducer experience
• Familiarity with power converter topologies (buck, boost, flyback, SEPIC, etc.) and control methods
• Oversight of PCB layout, BOM, and assembly processes
• Technical writing for proposals or business development
• R&D environment and small multidisciplinary team experience
• Mentoring junior EE staff on design, PCB implementation, and troubleshooting
• Customer briefing experience
• C/C++ or Python for embedded/microcontroller platforms

Qualifications

Required Skills and Attributes

B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in power systems

BSEE with 4+ years of relevant experience, or MSEE with 1+ years of relevant experience

Experience with power system design: circuit analysis and simulation, component selection, schematic capture, PCB design, and verification testing

Design of DC/DC and AC/DC power systems ranging from 500W to 50kW for harsh operating environments

Experience with high availability power supplies and/or failover systems

Comprehensive knowledge of electronic power devices including MOSFETs, Schottky Diodes, SiC FETs, and IGBTs

Proven experience designing with electromechanical actuators, DC/DC converters, power amplifiers, and magnetics

Experience troubleshooting electronic systems

Basic understanding of MATLAB-aided data analysis

Proficiency with electronic laboratory test equipment: DMM, oscilloscope, function generator, digital voltage and current measurement probes

Experience or familiarity with electronics assembly, wiring, crimping, and soldering is a plus

Preferred Skills and Attributes

Prior experience designing electronics for underwater maritime systems

Prior experience designing electric machines and/or drives

Experience working with acoustic transducers

Familiarity with power converter topologies (buck, boost, flyback, SEPIC, etc.) and their control methodologies

Experience with or oversight of electronic layout, bill-of-materials, and assembly processes

Experience creating technical content for new products, proposals, or business development pursuits

Experience working in an R&D environment and in small multidisciplinary teams

Experience mentoring junior EE staff on electronics design, PCB implementation, and board troubleshooting
