Position Summary

Registered nurse is responsible for collaborating, planning, directing and implementing patients care for all ages. The RN develops and guides patient education and evaluates the process using standards of care. Manage, assess, monitor dialysis patient while dialyzing. Reports issues and status to physician and other staff as needed.

Position Supervisory Responsibilities

Reports To: Department director and coordinator

Supervises: PCA's, techs

Position Requirements

Minimum Education

• Registered Nurse (RN)

Minimum Work Experience

• 12 months acute clinical experience as a Nurse

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Current RN licensure with the State of Texas, Appropriate BLS Certification.
• RN license in good standing in state of employment or a compact state

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• General knowledge of basic bedside nursing. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to age of the patients served in assigned area/department. The skills and knowledge to provide such care are gained through education, training, and/or experience.

Department Preferred Qualification

• At least 6 months dialysis experience
• Clinical patient care experience in a relevant setting
• Certification in Nephrology Nursing or related field

Physical Requirements

Must work varied hours and schedules. Requires prolonged walking and standing, frequent bending and/or stooping. May involve lifting or positioning of patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast paced environment. May be exposed to violent or disturbed individuals.

19. Required documentation specific to Registered Nurse includes the RN ADMISSION ASSESSMENT, completed within 24hrs of a all patient admissions to an inpatient unit (ICU, TELEMETRY WEST, TELEMETRY EAST/OBSERVATION, SURGICAL 4W, ACUTE REHAB UNIT)
20. Registered Nurses are required to administer specific IV medications per policy.
21. Registered Nurses are required to "check off" blood and blood products and initiate transfusions per policy, then able to delegate to an LVN.
22. Performs and documents reassessments per policy. Responds appropriately to serious and/or life threatening emergencies and communicates effectively to healthcare team.
23. Develop nursing plan of care, prioritizing identified problems and needs. Evaluates patients' response to care and revises plan of care accordingly.
