Assistant Meat Manager

Description The Meat Department is looking for a motivated Assistant Meat Manager to help support daily operations at our meat counter. This role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, maintaining fresh and well-presented product displays, and supporting inventory, pricing, and quality standards. Requirements Essential Job Functions Perform and/or supervise the cutting, weighing, wrapping, and preparation of meat and related products to meet customer specifications. Ensure accurate pricing, packaging, labeling, and presentation of meat products for quality, compliance, and merchandising standards. Maintain strong product knowledge to effectively assist customers and confidently answer questions. Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory control to maintain proper stock levels. Unload, transport, and properly store deliveries of fresh meat and poultry. Support and help supervise daily department operations to ensure efficiency, productivity, and service standards. Train and support new team members and ensure all associates remain up to date on department procedures, food safety, sanitation, and operational best practices. Inspect, rotate, and merchandise products to ensure freshness, quality, and minimal waste. Enforce and promote all food safety, sanitation, and handling policies in accordance with company and regulatory standards. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including equipment, prep areas, and displays. Communicate and assist with the implementation of new processes, standards, and operational updates within the department. Demonstrate strong organization, attention to detail, leadership presence, and communication skills while working collaboratively with management, team members, and customers. Minimum Skills and Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in a meat department, including hands‑on meat cutting experience. Minimum of 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience. Strong basic math skills for weighing, pricing, inventory, and transaction accuracy. Ability to manage product dates, rotation, and freshness standards. Ability to work collaboratively across departments. Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay organized in a fast‑paced environment. Strong customer service and communication skills. High attention to detail with a commitment to food safety and quality standards. English required; Spanish is a plus. Availability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Physical Demands Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during scheduled shifts. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Ability to work in cold, refrigerated, and freezer environments. Manual dexterity to safely use knives, cutting tools, and meat processing equipment. Ability to work around raw meat, poultry, cleaning agents, and sanitizing chemicals. Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, physically demanding environment. Clear vision and hearing to ensure safety, quality control, and effective communication. Ability to climb a step stool or ladder when necessary.
