Western National Mutual Insurance Company seeks to expand its Claims team by adding a Claims Intern in our Auto, Property, and Workers' Compensation departments as part of the Summer 2027 Internship Program. The individual in this role will have the opportunity to directly assist the Claims team with a wide range of projects related to data collection, entry, and claims resolutions Western National Intern Program Summary: Western National provides a robust internship program designed for individuals aiming to acquire valuable experience in the insurance industry. This program not only offers practical, hands-on opportunities and project work in partnership with our Claims teams; but interns will also have the opportunity to enhance their existing skill sets through a range of professional development activities, cultivate relationships with employees and fellow interns, and participate in impactful volunteer initiatives within the community. Position Summary: As a Claims Intern in our internship program, you will be a key contributor to our Claims teams. Possible tasks that you’ll assist with include: Learn how to research and confirm coverage for all types of property and casualty claims Learn the importance of claim documentation, recordkeeping, and data reporting Learn how to properly investigate a claim using communication and listening skills, witness information, online research tools, medical records, and/or vendor services Assist with updating data fields in designated systems and reporting vendor platforms Learn how to use your investigation to assess compensability Learn to read, review, and pay estimates, medical bills, and vendor bills Learn how to set and modify reserves on a claim Work with subject matter experts to learn claims and compliance processes Learn the importance of working closely with underwriters, loss control, insureds, and agents to offer superior customer service Attend off site claims-related tasks and events (i.e., inspections, depositions, court appearances, and/or mediations) with adjusting team Shadow other positions within the company to learn more about careers within the insurance industry Assist with various projects as assigned Requirements What You’ll Need to Succeed: Completed two years of college preferred Willingness to help with variety of tasks from data collection, entry, customer relations, claims resolution and everything in between Proven time management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task, and establish/meet deadlines Superior customer service Professional communication skills An understanding of technology solutions Ability to work onsite at our corporate office in Edina, MN Compensation Overview: The base pay offered for this position will be $20.00/hour More About Western National Insurance Group: Western National has long been known as “The Relationship Company®” and caring for our employees is part of that relationship commitment.
