Summary The RN Clinical Nurse provides patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based nursing care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. The nurse is accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and ThedaCare policy, and contributes to the professional practice of nursing by promoting a culture of innovation and growth. Unit Details Prep/PACU – Appleton Hospital: The RN is responsible for prepping patients for surgical and procedural cases, caring for patients and families while focusing on safety and customer experience. In recovery, the RN monitors post‑anesthesia patients, focusing again on safety, and then either discharges or transfers them to another level of care. Responsibilities Utilizes the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the patient and interprofessional team. Plans for the care needs of the patient in collaboration with the interprofessional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes. Demonstrates clinical expertise in the assigned specialty and performs all functions of the professional clinical nurse (RN) that are age‑appropriate, developmentally sensitive, and culturally specific. Identifies ways to improve the patient’s experience of care, streamline care processes, and lower costs while promoting quality to enhance patient, family, and team member satisfaction. Contributes to a professional environment that encourages mentoring, engagement, and development to retain expert clinicians. Provides consultation and maintains positive relationships with physicians and other interprofessional team members, collaborating to problem‑solve and improve patient care. Demonstrates, anticipates, and proactively manages risk to prevent crises. Performs skillfully in life‑threatening emergencies, matching demands and resources during crisis situations. Qualifications Current Wisconsin RN licensure. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. BSN completion: any non‑BSN nurse with less than one year of licensed RN experience will be required to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within five years of hire. Minimum 2 years of RN experience preferred. Physical Demands Ability to move freely and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing job duties. Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination required for patient care procedures. Work Environment Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Occasional high noise levels. Requirement to stand and walk for extended periods, transport, transfer, and position patients and equipment. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents, and aggressive or combative patients. Schedule & Location SCHEDULE: (2) shifts week one and (3) shifts week two to total 40 bi‑weekly. Start times vary between 5:30–12:00p (8‑hour shifts). Call schedule: 3 week nights in a 6‑week schedule and every 5th weekend (Saturday or Sunday – not both). Holiday call requirement: 1× per year. Weekly scheduled hours: 32. FTE: 0.8. Location: ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Appleton, Wisconsin.
