Job Description

The Personal Care Assistant supports students with disabilities by providing academic, behavioral, and personal-care assistance as directed by the student's case manager and instructional team. This role helps implement individualized educational programs and ensures a safe, supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Student Support - Assist with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
• Instructional Assistance - Support teacher-directed instruction in cognitive, motor, self-help, and behavior-skill areas.
• Health & Safety - Maintain awareness of student needs and ensure a safe environment.
• Personal Care - Assist with hygiene, toileting, diapering, and clothing changes.
• Behavior Support - Follow established guidelines and positive behavior strategies.
• Physical Assistance - Support students with mobility devices; assist with lifting and positioning.
• Collaboration - Work with teachers, specialists, and case managers.
• Mainstreaming Support - Prepare students for participation in general education settings.
• Recordkeeping - Maintain basic documentation of student progress.
• Training Participation - Attend required medical, behavioral, and instructional trainings.
• Social Skills Support - Assist students in developing appropriate social interactions.
• Teamwork - Work cooperatively with staff and independently when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Basic Knowledge

First Aid/CPR procedures; basic record-keeping; clear English usage.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma/GED and relevant experience preferred.

Required Clearances

• PA Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
• PA Criminal Background Check (Act 34)
• PA Dept. of Education FBI Clearance
• TB Screening (within 3 months)
• Arrest/Conviction Form
• Diploma or official transcripts
• Mandated Reporter Training Certificate (Act 126)
