Diesel Generator Technician

The Diesel Generator Technician will be responsible for servicing, diagnosing, repairing, and commissioning diesel generator systems and related equipment. The role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities, experience with generator controls and ATS systems, and the ability to work independently in field service environments. This opportunity is ideal for a technician with hands‑on experience in power generation, heavy equipment, industrial, construction, or oil & gas environments who is looking to join a growing operation with steady service work and field responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing on diesel generators and associated equipment Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues in generator units Repair or replace defective components including injectors, fuel systems, alternators, starters, and control panels Conduct load bank testing and performance evaluations Install, commission, and start up new generator systems Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches (ATS) and paralleling switchgear systems Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company procedures Respond to field service calls and emergency repair situations as needed Technical Skills Strong knowledge of diesel engines including fuel systems, cooling systems, and lubrication systems Experience working with electrical systems including AC/DC circuits, wiring, and voltage regulation Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Familiarity with major generator brands including Cummins, Caterpillar, and Kohler Proficiency using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and load testing equipment Qualifications 3–10+ years of experience working with diesel generators or heavy equipment Experience in field service, emergency repairs, and on‑site troubleshooting preferred Background in industrial, construction, oil & gas, or power generation environments is a plus OEM certifications such as Cummins, CAT, or Kohler preferred Electrical or mechanical trade certifications are a plus OSHA safety training preferred Physical & Work Conditions Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in outdoor or industrial environments Willingness to travel to job sites and respond to emergency service calls Comfortable working in varying weather conditions and on‑call schedules Soft Skills Strong problem‑solving and diagnostic abilities Good communication skills with customers and internal teams Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong time management and organizational skills #J-18808-Ljbffr Babich & Associates
