Associate Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program – Emphasis on Ambulatory Education & Outpatient Training

Academic Internal Medicine Faculty Role | Leadership in Graduate Medical Education | Baltimore, Maryland

Our organization, a comprehensive healthcare system with over $2 billion in revenue and serving more than one million patients each year across Maryland, is in search of a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Physician or Medicine Subspecialist to join our academic team as an Associate Program Director (APD) for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.

This is a full-time role, with the APD responsibilities comprising up to 0.5 FTE, while the remaining hours will be dedicated to clinical practice in an outpatient environment. The distribution of APD duties can be adjusted based on specialty and organizational needs.

We welcome candidates from Internal Medicine (outpatient), Pulmonology, Endocrinology, and Gastroenterology. This ambulatory-focused position allows you to treat internal medicine patients in our outpatient clinics, as well as manage a panel of your specialty patients, if relevant.

This leadership role integrates graduate medical education, residency program management, development of ambulatory curricula, mentorship for faculty, and both outpatient clinical practice and inpatient responsibilities as per subspecialty service lines. The Associate Program Director will work closely with the Program Director to enhance resident education, improve ambulatory training experiences, uphold ACGME accreditation standards, and promote excellence in outpatient internal medicine.

Located at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, which is affiliated with the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences, this position provides a unique opportunity to influence the training of future Internal Medicine physicians while maintaining an active outpatient practice.

Primary Responsibilities

• Act as Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, concentrating on ambulatory education and resident growth.
• Oversee clinics, ambulatory block rotations, outpatient subspecialty experiences, and the ambulatory curriculum.
• Work with Program Leadership to ensure adherence to ACGME standards and residency program objectives.
• Engage in resident recruitment, mentorship, evaluation, coaching, and academic guidance.
• Lead initiatives for curriculum development, quality improvement, and educational innovation.
• Assess resident performance and competency-based evaluations.
• Support faculty development and interdisciplinary educational initiatives.
• Maintain an outpatient panel (primary care or subspecialty) within the faculty group.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical institution.
• Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program.
• Certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
• Board Certified in Internal Medicine and/or an Internal Medicine Subspecialty.
• Eligibility for Maryland medical licensure, CDS, and DEA registration.
• ACLS certification.
• A minimum of two years of professional experience following residency or fellowship.
