About Support Services: Provide services for pediatric deaf/hard of hearing population ages 3-22 with diagnoses such as learning disabilities, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, emotional/behavioral concerns. Responsibilities include direct treatment, assessment, consultation to teachers and IEP goal development. Intervention services are designed to enhance the student's potential for learning, to assist the student in acquiring those functional performance skills needed to participate in and benefit from the educational environment, and to help the student function independently. The support services team includes Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language therapy. Physical therapists work closely with these professionals, along with educational staff and students’ families. Services may include individual or co-treatment sessions. Position Summary: The Speech and Language Pathologist assesses the communication and language abilities (signed, written and/or spoken) of students (using formal and informal assessment tools), in terms of present functioning and future potential, and determining the most effective modalities for development of proficient language and communication abilities and/or remediation. The Speech and Language Pathologist provides speech-language services in coordination with the students IEP to support their communication and language skills. Supervisor: Support Services Coordinator Functions and Responsibilities: Assess communication skills, conduct thorough tri-annual assessments and determine appropriate speech-language goals for each student. Prepares an individual communication/speech-language program for each student, involving written goals and strategies to be implemented and documents progress. In addition, participates as a member of each student's educational TEAM, attending IEP and planning meetings requested. Provides direct service to students in the areas of language development (signed, written and/or spoken), spoken English and listening skills, communication strategies, social-pragmatics, and/or AAC in either a one-to-one therapy setting or small group approach. Communicates regularly with parents, teachers, therapists (both in school and with those serving the student outside of school) regarding student progress to provide well-integrated services across disciplines, as needed. Monitor appropriate settings and plan and troubleshoot hearing aids and cochlear implants as needed. Communicate regularly with CI Center that follows each student who utilizes a cochlear implant. Some lifting may be required when working with young students or students with special needs, however, TLC embraces and celebrates a spirit of inclusion and diversity, and reasonable accommodations and modifications will be made whenever possible. The diversity of our student population may require that some assignments have a heavier physical responsibility due to safety. Requirements: Master’s Degree in Speech & Language Pathology Current ASHA certification as a CCC-SLP or candidate has met all requirements to participate in CFY mentoring Massachusetts Speech-Language License or eligible to be licensed Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience with children and families preferred A minimum of conversational fluency in American Sign Language preferred, with willingness to learn required ASL Classes may be required based on ASL fluency Prior experience working with the Deaf/Hard of Hearing population preferred Must maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record when driving students or performing work-related duties #J-18808-Ljbffr
