Summary This position is located within the Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 4, Chattahoochee Forest National Fish Hatchery, in Suches, Georgia. Responsibilities Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Operate gasoline and diesel vehicles, distribution trucks and tanks, cars, pickups, and UTV's. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on motor vehicles, distribution trucks, fish feeders, lawn mowers, water pumps and utility trucks. Adjusts the water supply system to regulate a variety of equipment necessary for the production of fish. Perform ground maintenance including mowing lawns, weed eating, using blowers, trimming shrubs, planting trees, spraying and other associated work. This includes operating farm type tractors with attachments, riding lawnmowers and push lawnmowers over flat or rolling topography. Perform general carpentry work to repair and construct raceway screens, tables, shelves, and cabinets. Assist higher graded employees in performing plumbing, electrical and painting tasks. Assisting biologists in collecting biological data and other miscellaneous duties that do not require specialized skill, training, or experience. Physical Demands Lifts and carries items weighing up to 75 pounds. Walks over rough and uneven terrain. Prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending and climbing are required. Work Environment Work is primarily performed outdoors. The incumbent is exposed to extreme weather conditions. Drives in all types of traffic and weather, often over unimproved roads. Is subject to cuts and bruises while loading and unloading vehicles and caring for fish. Uses safety precautions and specialized gear such as hip waders, aprons, steel toed boots, gloves, goggles and other protective equipment. Exercises care in handling chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
