Position Overview

In this role, you will inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicles, perform preventative maintenance, and recommend necessary repairs according to Toyota factory guidelines and dealership standards. You will also answer customer questions, inform customers about shop products and services, and adhere strictly to vehicle safety protocols.

Level-Specific Qualifications & Expectations

• Automotive Technician (Line Tech):
• • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on automotive repair experience, with strong hands-on experience working directly on Toyota vehicles.
  • Proficient in scheduled maintenance, brake service, steering and suspension, and light mechanical repair.
  • Toyota maintenance/certified training preferred.
• Master Automotive Technician:
• • Minimum of 5+ years of dealership experience with advanced Toyota vehicle systems.
  • ASE Master Technician certification preferred.
  • Thorough mastery of Toyota powertrain, engine mechanical, drivetrain, transmission, and advanced chassis systems.
• Master Diagnostic Technician (MDT):
• • Advanced proficiency in Toyota electrical architecture, multiplex networking (CAN bus), Hybrid/EV platforms, and engine management.
  • Proven expertise using the Toyota Techstream diagnostic suite and specialized electronic test equipment.
  • Proven track record of resolving complex, intermittent, and difficult-to-diagnose drivability and electronic faults.
• Expert Automotive Technician:
• • Top-tier Toyota factory training and credentials (Toyota Expert / Expert Diagnostic level).
  • Comprehensive expertise across all Toyota vehicle platforms, including internal combustion, hybrid, and advanced electronic safety systems (TSS).
  • Acts as a shop technical resource and mentor to apprentice and mid-level technicians, ensuring shop-wide repair efficiency and factory compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Check vehicles to ensure compliance with state inspection and vehicle safety requirements.
• Perform routine automotive maintenance, such as oil changes, fluid flushes, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
• Identify pre-existing and potential vehicle malfunctions through thorough multi-point inspections.
• Diagnose drivability, electrical, mechanical, and safety system issues according to technician tier level.
• Test vehicle parts and components prior to and following installation or repair to guarantee quality.
• Work with parts department personnel and manufacturers to order correct inventory and parts.
• Coordinate with service advisors and insurance companies to complete customer-pay and sponsored/warranty repairs.
• Inform customers and service advisors about recommended services, vehicle needs, and promotional shop products and services.
• Keep clean, detailed, and accurate records of completed and outstanding repair orders within the dealer management system.
• Consistently meet productivity, efficiency, and turnaround deadlines for completed work.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe stall in compliance with shop safety protocols and OSHA standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Heavy experience working on Toyota vehicles is required for all tiers; at least 3 years of previous experience in an automotive technician role.
• Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited vocational or postsecondary automotive technology program preferred.
• Certifications: ASE Certification preferred (ASE Master required or preferred for Master and Expert levels); Toyota factory training/certifications strongly preferred.
• Tools & Skills: Extensive experience with modern automotive diagnostic equipment, specialized service machinery, and various hand/power tools (must supply own standard tool set).
• Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Background Check: Ability to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug-screening.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced dealership environment.
