Adjunct Professor of English (Creative Writing) – William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA Type: Adjunct/Part‑Time Category: English and Literature Job Requisition: JR101800 Adjunct Professor of English (Creative Writing) (Open) Department: CC00092 WM001 | CAS | English Dept Job Description Summary The English Department at William & Mary is recruiting a pool of qualified individuals for possible part‑time adjunct teaching appointments in Creative Writing for the current academic year. The pool will remain open to address additional teaching needs throughout the year, and an application will remain active for up to one year. After that, interested candidates must reapply to the most current adjunct advertisement. Responsibilities Teaching assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses depending on unit need. Preparing syllabi and course materials. Delivering instruction and assessing student learning. Holding office hours. Fulfilling other instructional duties consistent with departmental needs. Required Qualifications A Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing or a closely related field, or equivalent experience and qualifications. Preferred Qualifications A Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree, or ABD status, in English or a related field at the time of appointment (August 10 for fall or January 10 for spring). Previous academic teaching experience is desirable. Conditions of Employment This position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship. This is a part‑time position restricted to the term to which it is assigned and is not eligible for benefits. The position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight work as needed. As part‑time exempt employees, adjuncts are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program; total hours may not exceed an average of 29 hours per week over a twelve‑month period beginning May 1 each year. Adjunct instructional workload limits apply, with up to 14 credit hours in fall/spring and 6 in summer, not to exceed 18 credit hours for the year. Adjuncts must maintain an in‑person presence for the duration of their appointment; remote teaching opportunities are rare and subject to approval.
