Golf Shop Manager

The Golf Shop Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and financial performance of the Golf Shop at Atlantic Beach Country Club. This position oversees all aspects of golf retail operations, including merchandise buying, inventory management, merchandising, vendor relationships, sales performance, and the delivery of an exceptional member and guest experience. The Golf Shop Manager is expected to maintain the highest standards of product selection, presentation, service, and operational execution. The position requires a strong understanding of the golf retail industry, customer service, retail merchandising, financial management, and current golf and lifestyle trends.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, relationship-driven, and capable of balancing the expectations of an elevated private club environment with the financial objectives of the retail operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Retail Strategy & Financial Performance
• Develop and execute the overall retail strategy for the Golf Shop in alignment with the Club's standards, membership, and financial objectives.
• Establish and manage annual sales, inventory, gross margin, and expense goals.
• Monitor key retail performance metrics, including sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, sell-through, average transaction value, and inventory levels.
• Analyze sales trends and member purchasing patterns to guide future buying decisions.
• Identify opportunities to increase retail revenue while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and margins.
• Provide regular reporting and performance updates to Golf leadership and Club management.

Merchandise Buying & Vendor Management

• Lead all merchandise purchasing for the Golf Shop soft goods and hard goods
• Develop seasonal merchandise assortments based on membership preferences, current market trends, tournament schedules, and Club initiatives.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with golf vendors, manufacturers, and sales representatives.
• Evaluate new brands and products to ensure the Golf Shop remains current, competitive, and relevant to the membership.
• Coordinate vendor appointments, trunk shows, and other retail initiatives.

Merchandising & Golf Shop Presentation

• Maintain a sophisticated, organized, and visually appealing retail environment consistent with the standards of a luxury private club.
• Develop merchandise displays, product stories, seasonal presentations, and promotional initiatives.
• Ensure Club-branded merchandise reflects the quality and identity of Atlantic Beach Country Club.
• Regularly evaluate product performance and adjust assortments, displays, and inventory accordingly.

Member & Guest Experience

• Deliver a highly personalized and service-oriented retail experience for members and their guests.
• Develop strong relationships with members and maintain a thorough understanding of their preferences, interests, and purchasing habits.
• Assist members with product selection, special orders, equipment needs, and personalized merchandise requests.
• Anticipate member needs and proactively identify opportunities to enhance the retail experience.
• Handle member concerns and service recovery with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with Club members.

Tournament & Event Support

• Coordinate retail merchandise and tournament-related purchasing in partnership with Golf Operations and Club leadership.
• Source and purchase tournament tee gifts, prizes, apparel, accessories, and other event merchandise.
• Assist with tournament merchandise presentations, special event displays, and member-facing retail experiences.
• Ensure all tournament and event merchandise is ordered, received, organized, and distributed accurately and on schedule.

Inventory & Operations

• Oversee receiving, pricing, tagging, stocking, transfers, special orders, and inventory organization.
• Establish and maintain appropriate inventory controls and procedures.
• Conduct monthly inventory physical counts.
• Monitor aged inventory and develop strategies to improve sell-through.
• Ensure accurate retail records and timely reconciliation of merchandise purchases and sales.
• Maintain strong relationships with Club purchasing, accounting, and operational departments.

Golf Operations & Club Collaboration

• Work closely with the Director of Golf, Head Golf Professional, Assistant Professionals, Golf Operations, and other Club departments.
• Ensure retail initiatives support the overall Golf Department and Club objectives.
• Participate in department meetings, planning sessions, and Club initiatives as needed.
• Collaborate with Membership, Marketing, Events, and other departments on member communications, merchandise initiatives, and special events.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of progressive experience in golf retail, country club retail, luxury retail, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in merchandise buying, inventory management, and retail operations.
• Strong understanding of golf equipment, apparel, accessories, and current golf retail trends.
• Experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating purchasing terms.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze sales and inventory data and make informed purchasing decisions.
• Strong financial and business acumen, including understanding of margins, inventory turnover, budgeting, and profitability.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Jonas Encore inventory management systems.
• PGA/PGM, CMAA, or other relevant industry experience is preferred but not required.

Compensation up to $75,000
