General Maintenance/HVAC Technician

Under immediate supervision - performs tasks, including but not limited to installing, maintaining, repairing, or upgrading heating and air conditioning systems in the schools and various buildings on WVSDB campus; procuring parts and materials needed to complete assigned jobs; and maintaining records of time and materials to complete job orders.

Will adhere to WVDE Policy 5902 "Employee Code of Conduct" and the applicable WVSDB personnel policies for employee performance. Observes safety precautions in carrying out assigned duties. Carries and operates communication devices with established notification procedures, as requested. Responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of campus heating and air conditioning units and related electrical equipment. Estimates time and materials for heating and air conditioning projects. Conducts inventory of air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical materials, supplies and equipment, submitting reports/requests based on inventory records. Serves as a crew chief for specific projects, working individually or as a team member for other projects. Performs general maintenance tasks when HVAC assignments are completed or on hold due to unforeseen circumstances. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving safety concerns. Transports various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site. Performs grounds maintenance or other general maintenance duties when assigned. Assist with snow and ice removal operations on roadways and sidewalks so they can be made safe as soon as possible, which includes callouts after normal working hours. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or superintendent.

Possesses High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code 18A-2-5. Possession of a current license for a certified HVAC Technician in the State of West Virginia. Possession of a certificate of training related to the use of air conditioning refrigerants - Clean Air Act of 1990, Section 608. Meets the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code 18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test), as required. Successful completion of a criminal background check pursuant to WV Code 18-5-15c and/or 18A-3-10. Demonstrated experience and/or training in any/or all job classifications identified within this job description. Possesses a valid state-issued motor vehicle operator's license. Physically able to perform heavy, extensive lifting and manual labor. Must hold, or be able to obtain, licensures required by state or federal agencies in the performance of the position.

Compensation: Based on WVSDB Service Personnel Pay Schedule, H Scale, commensurate with year of experience. 260-day annual contract. Full benefits package available.
