We are seeking a dedicated ASCP Certified Laboratory Assistant to join a dynamic clinical team in the Midwest region. This role involves supporting laboratory operations by collecting and processing specimens, performing waived and moderate complexity testing, and ensuring quality control under supervision.

Essential Job Functions

• Adhere to regulations from accrediting bodies such as CLIA, OSHA, The Joint Commission, EPA, and FDA.
• Follow policies for ordering, billing, and documentation of tests in compliance with CMS standards.
• Perform and report waived and moderate complexity tests on blood, urine, and feces specimens under direction.
• Conduct quality control tests, analyze results, and promptly address any deviations by notifying appropriate personnel.
• Collect blood specimens via venipuncture and capillary methods, ensuring proper patient identification and specimen handling.
• Prepare non-blood specimens and manage specimen processing, including coordination with reference laboratories.
• Maintain safety protocols when handling infectious, chemical, and electrical hazards, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Support laboratory staff with patient draws and distribution of test results.
• Manage inventory and reorder supplies as necessary.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and document sanitation procedures.
• Uphold confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
• Participate in required trainings and maintain certifications, including BLS and Mandatory Reporter course.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Completion of a Clinical Laboratory Assistant program.
• At least one year of experience in blood specimen collection or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum six months experience in a medical or clinical laboratory setting.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
• Completion or commitment to complete Mandatory Reporter training within six months of hire.
