Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Manager I (Marketing Director), the Information Officer II serves as the District's marketing communications generalist, content curator, and public relations lead. The incumbent develops and coordinates integrated campaigns; maintains a consistent editorial calendar and brand voice across web, email, social, print, and on-site channels; directs media relations and issues communications; and serves as an official spokesperson, as assigned. The position gathers, verifies, prioritizes, and translates information from throughout the District into clear, timely content for the public, media, employees, partners, and stakeholders. The incumbent provides day-to-day direction to administrative support staff, and oversees seasonal public/media support and Guest Services operations during the annual Fair.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with artificial light and climate control. While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment, push and pull file drawers, and move bank boxes up to 25 pounds. At times, work activities can involve walking and standing on foot for long periods. Work activities also require the employee to read, write, and speak English at a level required for successful job performance.

IF NEW to State Service: Individuals new to State service must have list eligibility to gain employment with any State agency. Individuals must take and pass the Information Officer II  online exam to be eligible prior to receiving a job offer.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Bachelor's Degree in communications, public realtions, journalism, marketing, or a closely related field.
• Three (3) years experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, public information, or a related role. Public sector or mission-driven organization experience is preferred.
• Experience writing and editing a variety of public-facing communications such as press release, website content, social media posts, articles, newsletters, talking points, speechs, or similar materials.
• Experience with medial and public relations activities, including vetting and responding to inquiries, coordinating interviews, preparing talking points or spokespersons, managing issues communications, and asssisting with press events.
• Experince using common communications tools and software, such as website content management system (CMS), social media schedulers, email publishing, analystics platforms, and other digitla communications tools
• Bilingual Spanish & English

5. Describe your management and leadership style when directing staff or teams. Provide a specific example of how you set expectations, communicated priorities, supported staff, and addressed challenges while maintaining strong service and communication standards with internal and external stakeholders.
