Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health & Addiction Treatment

A specialized behavioral healthcare organization is seeking an experienced  Registered Nurse (RN)  to join an interdisciplinary team treating adults with substance use disorders, trauma, and co-occurring mental health conditions.

This is  not an acute inpatient psychiatric nursing environment . The program provides structured residential and PHP care with an emphasis on individualized treatment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and manageable patient volume.Nurses work closely with psychiatric, medical, therapeutic, and case management professionals to provide integrated care throughout the treatment process.

The Role

The RN will provide medical and psychiatric nursing support across the program, including patient admissions, clinical assessments, medication management, withdrawal monitoring, care coordination, and ongoing evaluation of patient needs.

This position requires a nurse who is comfortable working independently, recognizes changes in patient condition, and knows when escalation or additional medical intervention is necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete nursing admissions and comprehensive patient assessments
• Monitor vital signs, withdrawal symptoms, behavioral changes, and overall clinical status
• Administer medications and monitor effectiveness, interactions, and potential side effects
• Perform medication reconciliation and provide patient medication education
• Develop and update individualized nursing care plans
• Support patients before and after specialized or adjunctive treatment modalities
• Perform appropriate nursing procedures within scope of practice
• Identify changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately
• Respond to clinical emergencies according to established protocols
• Coordinate care with medical, psychiatric, clinical, and case management teams
• Educate patients and families regarding medications, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations
• Maintain accurate nursing assessments, medication records, progress notes, and other required documentation
• Participate in nursing rounds and interdisciplinary treatment meetings
• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
• ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program
• Current BLS certification
• 2+ years of professional nursing experience
• Experience within  behavioral health, psychiatric care, substance use treatment, detox, or a related clinical environment
• Previous exposure to inpatient behavioral health strongly preferred
• Understanding of psychiatric conditions, co-occurring disorders, withdrawal management, and trauma-informed care
• Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking abilities
• Comfortable making independent nursing decisions and escalating concerns when appropriate
• Strong EMR documentation and communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Residential behavioral health or PHP experience
• Addiction treatment and withdrawal-management experience
• Psychiatric or addiction nursing certification
• Experience mentoring or supporting other nursing staff
• Exposure to specialized behavioral health treatment modalities
• Bilingual English/Spanish

Schedule & Quality of Life

• No regularly scheduled overnight shifts

• Rotating weekend coverage rather than every weekend

Licensure & Relocation

Candidates currently licensed outside Colorado are encouraged to apply. Nurses holding an eligible  multi-state RN license through the Nurse Licensure Compact  may have a streamlined path to practicing in Colorado.
