Civil/Structural Engineer

Description Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for a Civil/Structural Engineer with responsibility for reviewing civil and structural designs of new and existing power generation projects including wind, solar, hydro, battery energy storage systems, and thermal projects as an Independent Engineer. The candidate is a team member supporting project managers during transactional due diligence reviews. The role requires subject matter expertise in civil engineering including design for power projects in civil, geotechnical, hydrological, and structural sub‑disciplines, review of design codes, EPC contract specifications, design and equipment manufacturer drawings and calculations, providing Owner’s Engineering and Advisory support, and monitoring construction projects. The role may also include assisting the team in managing projects, developing sales proposals, and technology/bankability reviews. Primary Responsibilities Support project managers during transactional due diligence. Provide subject matter expertise in civil and structural design, review EPC Contract specifications, drawings, and calculations. Deliver Owner’s Engineering and Advisory support. Assist the team in managing projects, developing sales proposals, and technology reviews. Other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s of Science in civil or structural engineering with 4+ years of experience on industrial, power delivery, or power generation project design or other relevant experience. Design experience with increasing responsibility. Team player with ability to communicate effectively with internal staff (Project Managers, subject matter experts from other disciplines) and external parties (Owners, Developers, Lenders, Investors, Manufacturers). Experience providing high‑level reviews of engineers’ finite element analysis models, hand and software‑generated calculations, design drawing packages, and overall design basis/methodology; conformance to industry standards and design codes. Knowledge of governing design codes used in civil, structural, and geotechnical design (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, AISI, etc.) and familiarity with international codes a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe/Bluebeam. Familiar with structural analysis software (finite element analysis such as STAAD or RISA 3D); familiarity with MathCAD, AutoCAD and other structural analysis software a plus. Self‑starter who can work independently and as part of a team. Ability to meet client deadlines on multiple projects under pressure. Ability to manage schedule commitments related to multiple project reviews simultaneously. Willingness to travel for project site visits, possibly including international travel. Ability to work extended hours to support client needs. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Preferred Qualifications Active FE/EIT certification with aspiration to obtain professional engineering licensure. Active professional engineer (PE) license. Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering. Licensed structural engineer (SE). Field engineering experience during construction of projects. Spanish language speaking and reading skills. Familiarity with large construction projects (industrial, large commercial, mechanical, electrical systems, transmission and distribution experience). Experience in the design of power generation projects (natural gas combined and simple cycle, wind turbine foundations, solar racking/trackers and pile foundations, rooftop solar systems). Familiarity with review of construction specifications and submittals. Familiarity with construction documentation such as ECN’s, CD’s, RFI’s, and NCR’s. Location Hybrid working setup preferred. At least three (3) days in person at a Leidos managed office each week. Teleworking arrangements may be considered. Ideal candidates located within commuting distance of Denver, CO or Framingham, MA.
