Protection & Control DesignerArup's purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.We are seeking a Protection & Control Designer with technical experience in the design of HV substations for power utilities and for the interconnection of renewables and data centers. In this role you will support the delivery of substation detailed design projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for electric utilities, contractors and developers. You will be the technical interface with clients and internal team members.This position can be worked out of our New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Boston or Chicago offices.The Opportunity:Perform the engineering design, technical strategy, and delivery of HV and EHV substation projects for power utilities and for the interconnection of renewables and data centers.Prepare substation P&C design packages including single?line diagrams, protection and control schematics, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, control house layout, cable schedules, relay panel front and rear layout, cable tray layout and bills of materials to quality, time and budget requirements.Support in substation studies and calculations including AC auxiliary system sizing, battery sizing and voltage drop.Provide construction support and inter-disciplinary coordination.At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.Is this role right for you?Associate degree in technology or related discipline and 4 years related experience.Proven 4+ years experience in 15kV through 345kV P&C utility substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.Advanced understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD and MicroStationAbility to work both independently and collaboratively, as needed, to achieve agreed goals and results.Excellent communication skills — able to interact with clients, regulatory bodies, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
