Kitchen Steward

Description

Responsible for a multitude of food service tasks including but not limited to maintaining the dish room area, washing all food preparation items, and meal service items. Cleaning and maintaining the dish room area, storeroom, coolers and freezers. Will assist with putting away freight using FIFO method

ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS:

• Washes dishes, pots, pans utensils and trays during the busy time of the operation. Coordinates personal duties as required by the overall food service operations.
• Washes objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.
• Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans etc. and places in assigned storage areas in an organized and orderly manner.
• Cleans floors, walls, tables and equipment according to the procedures in the sanitation manual..
• Puts away food and supplies after delivery. Keeps storage areas neat, clean and organized.
• Cleaning and maintaining the dish room area and chemical room.
• Removes garbage from assigned areas, sets up or breaks down tables, snack bars, display cases, serving lines, including breaking down cardboard boxes and places them in the appropriate receptacle.
• Assists with various periodically scheduled large cleaning projects.
• Actively supports and participates in performance improvement activities.
• Safely operates equipment such as the dish washing machine
• Refills dispensers with chemicals. Handles chemicals safely. Understands the information on the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and can locate them as needed.
• Maintains storerooms and coolers and freezers.
• Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
• Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent, required
• Current Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Certification required
