Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 1 year of CVICU experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.

Details

• Acute care setting in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) on unit 5S
• Level 1 Trauma Center
• 18-bed unit caring for open heart, complex thoracic, and vascular patients, including those supported by Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO
• Common cases include advanced cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids, TCABGs, Fem-Pops, and EVARs/Endo AAAs; also supports complex cases from the cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1
• RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own cardiac monitor strips (no telemetry techs on unit)
• RNs manage all RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
• No CNAs on the unit; intensivist and hospitalist are in-house 24/7
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour shifts; days (0630–1830) and nights (1830–0630) available; schedule set by manager
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday or as needed based on unit needs
• No on-call requirement
• Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; at least 1 year must be with a CVICU patient population
• BSN not required
• Experience with Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO strongly implied by patient population
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Ability to read and independently interpret cardiac monitor strips
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
• Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
• RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% — failure to pass results in contract termination
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result to contract termination
• Navy blue scrubs required
• RTO must be disclosed upfront; a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract is permitted — additional RTO will not be approved
• Candidates who were previously directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
