- Conduct research that supports the historical information requirements of the organization and it's affiliated elements.
- Develop plans, policies, and procedures for data collection for command histories.
- Represent the organization on historical matters at professional conferences.
- Manage the organizations historical program to ensure it conforms to professional standard.
- Serve as the advisor to the commander and staff on all matters of historical precedent.
- Collect and record historical data from interviews and written content.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on a single scope background investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- The employee may be required to work uncommon tours of duty hours, working either fixed or rotating shift which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Employee may be subject to recall situations during nonscheduled time periods.
- This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 15% of the time to various CONUS and OCONUS locations.
- The incumbent may be subjected to short notice recall. Must reside within 50-miles of duty location.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical, must be able to lift 50 pounds

- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
