Eligibility Specialist

Company Description CEDA is one of the largest private, nonprofit Community Action Agencies in the United States, serving residents throughout Cook County, Illinois. The organization provides programs in education, emergency assistance, employment and workforce training, energy conservation, health and nutrition, and housing counseling. Annual Community Assessments with input from residents and stakeholders help shape programs and ensure they reflect local needs. CEDA is the largest of 36 Community Action Agencies in Illinois and part of a national network of 1,100 agencies committed to community advancement. Role Description The Eligibility Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Chicago, IL. This position is responsible for determining applicant eligibility for CEDA programs, reviewing documentation, verifying income and household information, and ensuring compliance with program guidelines and regulations. The Eligibility Specialist will conduct interviews with applicants, explain available services and requirements, and provide clear guidance on next steps. Daily tasks include entering and updating client data in internal systems, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with colleagues to resolve issues and support timely service delivery. The role also involves responding to inquiries from community members, coordinating with partner agencies, and assisting with outreach activities to connect eligible residents with services. Qualifications Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex eligibility requirements clearly and respectfully. Background in Human Services or related fields, with experience supporting individuals and families in community-based or social service settings. Customer Service skills focused on empathy, patience, and problem-solving when working with diverse populations. Knowledge of Medicaid, Insurance, and related public benefit programs, or willingness and ability to learn relevant regulations and processes. High attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing documentation, verifying information, and maintaining records. Proficiency with basic office software and data entry systems; ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively. Understanding of or interest in community action and anti-poverty initiatives; prior experience in a nonprofit or community agency is beneficial. High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in Human Services, Social Work, or a related discipline is preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr CEDA
