Camp Counselor

Overview Under the direction of the Family Programming Director, the Camp Counselor is responsible for implementing camp activities for children ages 2 to 15 years old and ensuring a safe, clean, and fun environment while executing the department’s established guidelines and standards. Responsibilities Organize and supervise campers ages 2 to 15 years old. Create and maintain a safe, clean environment, including cleaning workspaces after activities such as art and lunch. Ensure all campers are supervised at all times and that all items on the opening and closing operation checklists are completed. Greet parents and children with a smile and invite children to join activities. Engage with children at all times, especially older, shy, or bored children, providing comfort and assistance as needed. Organize and implement age‑appropriate activities such as sports scrimmages, arts & crafts, and group games. Transfer campers to and from activities within the club. Treat children with respectful and responsive behavior, addressing inappropriate behavior tactfully. Communicate timely and follow up as appropriate. Participate actively in events, programs, meetings, training, and camp marketing events. Represent the club professionally through image, dress, communication, and immediate follow‑through. Communicate important information to parents in a detailed and professional manner. Qualifications Minimum one (1) year of experience caring for children in a daycare or camp environment. Professional, friendly manner with excellent customer service attitude and abilities. Strong verbal communication and conflict‑resolution skills. Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable team player. Self‑motivated, takes initiative, and willing to acquire new skills. Well organized and detail oriented. Computer literate. CPR certification required. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Must arrive on time for all scheduled shifts; weekends, evenings, and holidays required. Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to adjust to changes in the work environment. Daily public contact and occasional need to deal with upset or angry people. Must adapt to a frequently changing environment. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasional sitting for extended periods and regular walking around the facility. Occasional talking and hearing required. Must frequently move 10 pounds and, in emergencies, lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
