Chief Mate 

Job Summary

As Chief Mate, you will oversee and coordinate daily activities for the deck department on recovery and drone ships. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the vessel's safe operation, managing deck crew, and supporting recovery processes, payloads, and other assets. You will work closely with the vessel’s Captain and mission operations teams to execute complex maritime missions.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Captain in all vessel operations, including navigation, docking, and safety protocols.
• Lead deck crew in preparing, deploying, and retrieving recovery systems and equipment.
• Execute offshore recovery and transport operations for rockets, spacecraft, and critical payloads.
• Supervise deck crew activities, providing training, guidance, and safety briefings.
• Assign work tasks to ensure operational readiness and efficiency.
• Uphold strict safety standards and compliance with company policies.
• Implement vessel safety protocols, ensuring compliance with US Coast Guard regulations.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and drills for emergencies.
• Ensure maintenance of safety equipment and life-saving appliances.
• Oversee deck equipment maintenance, ensuring recovery gear is operational.
• Manage inventory of deck supplies, equipment, and spare parts for mission support.
• Inspect deck machinery, winches, cranes, and navigation equipment.
• Maintain logs and records of daily operations, recovery events, and maintenance activities.
• Prepare post-mission reports and document incidents or equipment malfunctions.
