Responsibilities
- Draw blood samples from patients in various settings, including outpatient clinics and patient service centers, demonstrating proficiency in pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Explain procedures to patients to create a calm and trusting environment, ensuring their comfort and confidence.
- Verify patient demographic information, including initials and signatures post-venipuncture, ensuring proper labeling of specimens.
- Prepare and process laboratory specimens following established safety and quality protocols.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to specimen collection and patient interactions.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, safety standards, and dress codes to promote a professional environment.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and support a positive, customer-focused environment.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, managing multiple priorities efficiently.
- Travel to multiple locations as required, including patient service centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, with minimal notice.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in phlebotomy, including pediatric and geriatric collections, with a minimum of three years of direct experience.
- Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques and laboratory specimen handling.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and superior customer service orientation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Competence in keyboard and data entry tasks related to specimen documentation.
Additional Skills & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; medical assistant or paramedic training is preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification is preferred, and required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
- Minimum of three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
- Experience working in a Patient Service Center environment is preferred.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with a clean driving record are necessary.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, to cover multiple locations as needed.
- Must be within 20–25 minutes commuting time to assigned worksite.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently in a high-volume setting.
