The company is a well-established demolition and construction company based in Brooklyn, NY. The organization manages approximately $90 million in annual revenue and is affiliated with multiple real estate entities. They are known for delivering complex construction and demolition projects throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Position Summary:

The company is seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial operations. This is a confidential search for a highly organized, conscientious professional who can oversee day-to-day accounting functions, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, and provide strong leadership to the accounting team.

The ideal candidate will bring significant experience within the construction industry , preferably with demolition or related contracting businesses, and possess the ability to establish accountability, improve processes, and maintain accurate financial records in a fast-paced environment.

This position is fully onsite, five days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the company and affiliated entities.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Supervise and support the accounting team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes.
• Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Ensure accurate job costing, project accounting, and revenue recognition.
• Partner with ownership and executive leadership to provide financial insights and operational support.
• Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, banks, and other financial partners.
• Monitor compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and reporting requirements.
• Identify process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accountability.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation preferred but not required.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience .
• Construction industry experience is required.
• Demolition, heavy civil, specialty contracting, or related industry experience strongly preferred.

• Strong understanding of:

  • Construction accounting.
  • Job costing.
  • Work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Financial statement preparation.
  • Budgeting and forecasting.
  • Cash flow management.
• Experience managing accounting staff and day-to-day accounting operations.
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems; experience with MQ is a plus.
• Experience overseeing payroll operations; familiarity with payroll system implementations is beneficial.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication abilities.

Compensation: $160,000 - $175,000.
