Network Development Manager, Building Connectivity Engineering

The Core Networking team is looking for a Sr. Network Development Manager to join our Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. As a Network Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing teams that build, deploy and scale the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units, across multiple global datacenters. AWS Infrastructure Services owns design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, supporting data centers, servers, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure continuous customer access to innovation. You will collaborate with diverse teams across AWS to deliver the highest standards of safety and security while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost. Key Responsibilities Drive operational excellence by creating processes and procedures, improving efficiency, ensuring compliance with standards and policies, and supporting internal customers. Lead network measurement initiatives focusing on metrics that inform ROI, including issue tracking, capacity analysis, vendor equipment failures, and overall network performance. Own performance and career management for the team, conduct regular one‑on‑one meetings, provide technical and soft‑skill mentoring, and schedule a 24/7 operational rota. Develop and improve incident and change management processes, including tool and practice enhancements to scale with platform growth. Take the lead in recruiting, hiring, and training new team members, coordinating with Amazon and external recruiters, and ensuring proper onboarding. Analyze day‑to‑day operations to identify automation opportunities, collaborate with software teams, and embed automation directly within networking frameworks. Define and deliver strategic goals for your team and the broader Topology team, aligning resources and communicating status to leadership. A Day in the Life Work in a 24/7 on‑call rotation. Manage customer interactions during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure. Maintain alertness during scheduled work hours while taking appropriate breaks. Travel to data center, network sites, or Amazon/customer offices as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or equivalent field. 5+ years of engineering experience. 5+ years of people management or relevant leadership experience, managing a team of 8+ individual contributors. 3+ years of past experience with network engineering as a manager or individual contributor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience presenting root cause analysis and error correction from operational events to senior management. Working knowledge of developing operational metrics. Knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, routing/switching, and troubleshooting). Linux experience with scripting in Python, Perl or shell, and demonstrated automation of network management. Experience representing a team or technical area to senior management. Experience creating and implementing high‑volume recruiting plans.
