His/her primary roles are to assure efficient patient flow through the office; to maintain neat, clean and safe patient care areas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their need.QualificationsCrossed trained at the front desk to assist with phone calls, appointment scheduling, clinical messaging, check in, check out and other front desk dutiesReviews provider schedules daily and weekly to plan patient care and formulates solutions for potential problemsCommunicates schedule changes with providersGreets patient in waiting room and escorts to triage room and exam roomAssures efficient patient flow through the office, triage room and exam roomsChecks patient's identification using (2) patient identifiers – name, DOB and/or MRNAdheres to hand hygiene and standard precaution guidelinesInstructs patient how to prepare for the physician or nurse practitioner (assisting as necessary)Anticipates / sets up special equipment and/or supplies needed for the visitAlerts the physician or nurse practitioner when the patient is ready and communicates pertinent clinical informationAssists the physician or nurse practitioner with patient care during the visitAssists with training and orientation of new Medical Assistant staffAssists with training and orientation of new equipmentAssists patient through checkout process when visit is completeCleans and prepares room for next patientResponds to needs to expedite visits and keep on scheduleProvides care appropriate to age group of patients in practice setting and documents data per practice protocolsTests specimens as necessary:o EKG and transmit EKGo Stool for occult bloodo Urine Collection (perform UAs and Centrifuge)o Skin TestingPerforms phlebotomy when applicablePerforms other tests, procedures, and treatments as neededDownload glucometers, pumps and reports as neededAssists physician or nurse practitioner with patient examination, procedures, and treatments as directedDocuments testing / results per practice protocolsPerforms designated tasks related to tracking test results and may communicate normal test results to patients as directed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or nurseEnters vitals and test results into EPICUpdates clinical paperwork as neededAssists physicians, nurse practitioner or nurses in coordinating care with / making referrals to community agencies for non-clinical servicesMaintains neat, clean and safe exam rooms and treatment areasAssures exam, treatment and clean utility rooms are properly stocked, equipped, and secured as applicableAssures GI is adequately stocked with Infant Formula and tracks Formula arrival and dispensing.Requests clinical supplies and practices cost effectiveness measuresAssures all equipment is in good working orderCleans equipment, exam rooms and triage room after patient use per office protocolPromotes patient / customer satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needsCommunicates appropriately and effectively with patientFunctions as an integral part of the patient care teamInteracts in a professional, cooperative way with other practice staffAccepts delegate responsibilities in a positive mannerOffers help to others in the practice when not busyBefore leaving the practice on breaks / lunch makes sure adequate coverage is availableEngages in constructive problem solving with others in the practice as problems ariseAttends and participates in practice staff meetingsPerforms all other duties assignedMedical Assistant certification preferredBasic Life Support certification requiredPhlebotomy – Pediatrics preferredAssociates degree preferredNursing Assistant certification or other academic preparation may be considered in lieu of Medical Assistant certification1-2 years of Medical Assistant experienceKnowledge of computer skills preferred including EPIC and Microsoft Outlook as required.Exceptional organizational skills, flexibility to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detailAbility to work independently, as well as in a team environmentExcellent and effective interpersonal and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work effectively and courteously with various groups of patients, families, support staff, and providersDemonstrated ability to problem-solve and function as a resource to other members of the teamAbility to resolve complex issues on behalf of the providers and the patientsDemonstrated knowledge of HIPAA Confidentiality and Privacy PoliciesAbility to PrioritizeAccuracy and attention to detaiAdditional Job Details (if applicable)Remote Type: OnsiteWork Location: 102 Endicott StreetScheduled Weekly Hours: 40Employee Type: RegularWork Shift: Day (United States of America)EEO Statement: The General Hospital Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
