NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree in Historic Architecture or related with minimum additional experience of 20 year(s) in Historic Architecture or related

• None, though architecture license would be a bonus.
• Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat

Duties:

Enrollee provide expertise, and analysis in the fields of historical architecture, engineering, restoration, preservation, stabilization, and conservation. Projects will be conducted on an ?as-needed? basis in response to technical assistance requests from Mojave National Preserve (Preserve) for Historic Preservation.

• Conduct architectural inspections of structures, facilities and cultural resource features in Preserve to assess their physical condition and determine likely causes of deterioration. 40%
• Recommend treatment that will address deficiencies and help to assure the long-term preservation of the resource that will meet the Secretary of the Interior?s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. 40%
• Provide technical assistance to new and existing cultural resource professionals in the NPS. 10%
• Assist with developing task agreements through the CESU program to enlist NPS Cooperator(s) who can facilitate the execution of the recommended treatments, and/or it may involve participation in field schools held under the terms of the task agreement. 5%
• Other projects, reports or studies as identified by the Mojave National Preserve Cultural Resources or Science and Resource Stewardship Programs. 5%

Other:

• Overnight travel: Occasional travel up to a week or a month may be required for this position. An initial site field visit for scoping is anticipated.
• Air travel anticipated: Occasional travel up to 7 days a month may be required for this position. An initial site field visit for scoping is anticipated.
• Health and Safety Considerations: Guidance and training will be provided on-site to ensure that enrollee is fully aware of health and safety considerations (every site is different and will involve different safety precautions and equipment). PPE will be provided, where necessary.
• Required Safety Gear: PPE may include, but is not limited to hard hats, face masks, gloves, safety glasses, and other gear necessary to ensure that the enrollee is prepared to work in varied environments.
• Physical requirements: This position will require the ability to work in varied and extreme environments, hike or walk in rugged terrain, and work in interior or confined spaces. The Preserve is known for its hot environment and dry conditions. The ability to sit in a vehicle for hours over rough roads is also required. Sites and locations may require hikes of several miles in which the Enrollee would need to carry their own equipment and PPE.
