Senior Java Software Engineer – Cloud & MicroservicesWe are seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to help modernize and build business-critical enterprise applications. This role will play a key part in transforming legacy Java systems into modern cloud-native applications and microservices using Java 17+, Spring Boot, AWS, containerization, APIs, and event-driven architecture.This is a hands-on senior engineering position for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, influencing application design, and mentoring other developers. You'll work across application development, architecture, integrations, automated testing, DevOps, and production support while helping shape modern engineering practices across the team.What You'll DoModernize legacy Java applications into scalable cloud-native architectures and microservices.Design and develop enterprise applications using Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and related technologies.Build, document, version, and maintain RESTful APIs using API-first principles and OpenAPI standards.Design event-driven integrations using Kafka and other messaging technologies.Develop clean, secure, maintainable, and high-performing code using modern object-oriented principles and software design patterns.Build automated unit, integration, and API tests using JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber, and related frameworks.Develop and optimize SQL while integrating applications with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.Utilize Hibernate/JPA and similar ORM technologies for enterprise application development.Work with Docker and Kubernetes to support containerized application environments.Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, Infrastructure as Code, and release management.Utilize Git-based source control, peer code reviews, and modern collaborative development practices.Deploy and support applications within AWS cloud environments.Troubleshoot complex application issues including performance bottlenecks, memory utilization, integration failures, and production incidents.Utilize approved AI-assisted development tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and Claude to accelerate coding, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting.Identify opportunities to incorporate AI-enabled capabilities into applications and engineering processes where they can improve automation, efficiency, quality, or user experience.Participate in a cross-functional Scrum team within a SAFe Agile environment, including sprint planning, refinement, standups, reviews, retrospectives, and PI Planning.Partner with architects, Product Owners, QA engineers, Scrum Masters, developers, and business stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver solutions.Provide technical leadership, mentoring, code guidance, and knowledge sharing to less experienced engineers.Help evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to application architecture, development practices, and engineering standards.Participate in scheduled on-call support and assist with critical production issues when necessary.Required QualificationsStrong professional experience developing complex enterprise applications with Java.Hands-on experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot/Spring Framework.Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices.Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and modern software engineering practices.Experience working with relational databases and SQL.Experience with Hibernate, JPA, or similar ORM technologies.Experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, and/or Cucumber.Experience with Git and build tools such as Maven or Gradle.Understanding of CI/CD practices and automated software delivery.Strong troubleshooting skills across complex enterprise applications.Experience participating in Agile/Scrum software development teams.Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.Highly Desired ExperienceAWS cloud development and deployment experience.Kafka or similar event-driven/messaging technologies.Docker and Kubernetes.Azure DevOps.Infrastructure as Code and deployment automation.API-first development and OpenAPI standards.SAFe Agile and PI Planning.Application performance monitoring and production troubleshooting.Experience modernizing legacy applications into cloud-native microservices.Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, or Claude within a professional software engineering environment.Technology EnvironmentJava 17+ | Spring Boot | Spring Framework | REST APIs | Microservices | Kafka | Hibernate/JPA | SQL | AWS | Docker | Kubernetes | Git | Maven/Gradle | Azure DevOps | CI/CD | JUnit | Mockito | Cucumber | JaCoCo | ChatGPT | Copilot | Claude | SAFe Agile | Scrum | PI PlanningWhat We're Looking ForWe're looking for more than someone who can simply maintain an existing Java application.
