NEMS HEAD COACH GIRLS VOLLEYBALL~BLACK TIGERS TEAM JobID: 7659 Date Posted: 6/22/2026 Location: Northeast Middle School Date Available: ASAP Position Title: HEAD COACH Reports To: The Director of Athletics, who provides a final evaluation to the superintendent. Summary To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success while at the same time helping the athlete to achieve an appreciation for the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. Responsibilities Has full responsibility for the overall supervision of their program. Is responsible for the general upkeep, protection, and inventory of equipment and uniforms used in their sport. Assures that they know the existing state and league regulations and abide by them at all times. Assists the athletic coordinator in providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events. Attends all league meetings regarding scheduling and rule updates specific to their sport. Develops schedules for all levels of play. Communicates all schedule changes to the Director of Athletics or athletic coordinator. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment storage areas. Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices, and adheres to scheduled facility times. Recommends awards and clarifies award policy to athletes. Participates in the budgeting process with the Director of Athletics by establishing requirements for the next season, explains equipment guidelines, and operates within the established budget. Has thorough knowledge of policies and procedures in the student‑athlete handbook and CIAC handbook, explains and reinforces rules of training and code of conduct to all members of the team, along with the CIAC eligibility rules. Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by the staff. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' office to permit athletes into authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times. Never leaves athletes unsupervised during scheduled practices. Examines locker rooms, equipment rooms, and playing safe areas before and after team use, checking general cleanliness and safety. Secures all doors, lights, windows, gates, locks, and alarm when leaving the building or outside facility when custodians are not on duty. Submits necessary postseason reports to the Director of Athletics at the conclusion of the season. Is responsible for the actions and conduct of their team whenever they are under their jurisdiction. Is responsible for the general health and welfare of student‑athletes in their sport. Communicates instructions and commands using clear, simple, and positive language. Pays appropriate attention to athletes who are injured or ill or otherwise incapacitated, follows the protocol set by the athletic department for injured athletes. Organizes pre‑season meetings for players and coaches. Evaluates performance of student‑athletes and provides suitable feedback, balancing critique with positive and motivating comments. Maintains good public relations with media, parents, officials, opponents, and fans. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and use. Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians. Maintains current Connecticut coaching certification with the State of Connecticut Department of Education. Performs other duties consistent with the nature of the position that may be requested by the Director of Athletics and/or principal. Qualifications Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit. Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education. Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
