Description
Otter Tail County is accepting applications for an Engineering Technician in the Highway Department. The purpose of the Engineering Technician position is to provide, maintain, and improve on a safe and efficient transportation system for the residents and visitors to Otter Tail County. Individual work assignments include planning, designing, surveying and providing right-of-way, managing and inspecting Otter Tail County road construction sites, projects, bridges, and drainage ditches.
Examples of Duties
Coordinates highway and bridge improvement projects by preparing construction plans; generating and/or updating drawings, sketches, charts, and maintaining information as necessary
Provides records, maps and related documents to contractors and homeowners; provides information as necessary
Surveys construction sites; calculates grades; determines boundary lines; and identifies technical problems
Performs routine inspections of sites to gather information and monitor progress
Maintains logs and records related to daily activities; maintains databases and files
Performs other duties as assigned
Demonstrates the ability to work well with others, be courteous and helpful
Possesses the ability and willingness to follow rules, policies, and directives
Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position
May assist with duties and responsibilities as outlined in the County Emergency Operations Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or four (4) years civil engineering experience.
Licenses/Certifications
Valid driver's license
MnDOT Aggregate Production and Grading & Base Tester certifications (or the ability to obtain within two years of hire) for Engineering Technician l
Supplemental Information
This position is regularly scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00-4:30 p.m. The starting salary is dependent upon qualifications. The 2026 salary range is listed below.
Engineering Technician l: $27.42 - $41.13
Engineering Technician ll: $29.69 - $44.53
Engineering Technician lll: $32.50 - $48.76
The selection process will include an online employment application and supplemental questionnaire. Semi-finalists will be invited to interview. Prior to hire, finalist will be required to pass a background investigation and reference check. A standard 12-month probationary period applies.
