Applied AI Engineer (Agents & Systems)

Salary: $115,000 - 130,000 per year Requirements:

• Strong software engineering and API/integration skills, with the ability to build, test, and ship production software independently
• Production experience with Python and/or TypeScript
• Demonstrated experience shipping agentic or tool-using AI systems, such as agents, copilots, or automations that call tools or APIs
• Ability to own work end to end, from design and development through deployment, monitoring, and improvement
• An observability mindset, including building logging, tracing, metrics, and alerting into agents and diagnosing problems from telemetry
• Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical partners
• A practical approach focused on reusable systems rather than one-off integrations
• Security-minded engineering, including least-privilege access, secure credential and secret handling, audit trails, and sound judgment about company data and AI tools
• Preferred: hands-on experience with MCP or comparable tool-calling agent frameworks
• Preferred: experience integrating business systems of record, ERPs, or SaaS APIs
• Preferred: experience using AWS or a similar cloud platform to host agents, functions, or applications
• Preferred: production experience with Claude, Anthropic, or a comparable frontier language model
• Preferred: experience with evaluation, guardrails, and operational practices for production AI
• Preferred: experience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, AWS CloudWatch, or Langfuse, as well as alerting and incident response
• Preferred: experience setting service-level targets and monitoring AI workload cost and quality
• Nice to have: experience building virtual-teammate or multi-agent patterns
• Nice to have: experience with queues, webhooks, or lightweight ETL supporting agent workflows
• Nice to have: familiarity with operations-heavy industries, such as manufacturing, logistics, or regulated environments

• Design, build, and operate AI agents that carry out real business workflows
• Create MCP, tool, and API integrations with systems of record and internal services
• Develop AWS-hosted agents and AI-created applications using reusable patterns
• Establish handoff approaches that let employees assign work to virtual teammates as their capabilities mature
• Implement agent observability, including structured logs, step-by-step traces, metrics, dashboards, and alerts for failures or performance drift
• Build for reliability and respond to incidents using health checks, retries, safe failure modes, pause or kill switches, run replay, and regression tests
• Monitor AI costs and quality, including usage, spend, response speed, error rates, and output quality over time and after model or prompt changes
• Apply agent security and governance practices, including least-privilege access, secrets management, audit logging, and clear controls over data shared with external AI models

At SunMed Growers / Tidal Creek Growers, we are building an AI-native operating layer that connects real business workflows with our systems of record. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on production agentic systems, not chatbot experiments or a conventional feature-ticket queue. We provide collaboration on AI design, and the engineer works day to day with IT and business process owners. The position is full-time W-2, hybrid rather than fully remote, with regular onsite work at SMG/TCG; the schedule is coordinated with HR. The compensation range is $115,000–$130,000 per year.
