The Transportation Driver is responsible for the timely pick-up and delivery of specimens, reports, supplies, mail and pharmaceuticals to Meriter Customers throughout Wisconsin while maintaining hazardous handling guidelines and safety guidelines. The drivers assure that all vehicles are in safe operating condition prior to beginning their shift and are responsible for routine maintenance of vehicles.

Drivers must use an above average amount of poise and tact in dealings with Customers. Customers should be able to communicate problems or concerns to the driver and be confident that the issue will be addressed by the driver or driver’s supervisor.

Essential Functions:

• Drive passenger van or box truck. Properly load and unload truck.

• Deliver packages, supplies, linen, and other loads up to 50 pounds.

• Handle items in an appropriate manner to ensure integrity. Obtains signatures and maintains logs as required.

• Adhere to designated time schedules. Ability to adjust to meet “call-in” requests.

• Makes driving decisions related to weather.

• Picks up and delivers items to correct locations. Keep items organized to ensure timely delivery.

• Understands unique requirements of each client including specimen/supply location, contact person, hours of operation, etc.

• Works independently and must make sound decisions regarding work responsibilities in the presence of the customer.

• Exhibits the values and philosophy of UPH-Meriter in daily activities and performs job functions in accordance with policies and procedures

• Responsible for transporting hazardous materials, knowing how to clean up chemical and biohazard spills, reading and understanding of Material Safety Data Sheets to ensure compliance with Meriter’s Hazardous Communication Program.

• Drivers are responsible for preventing damage to equipment, supplies, specimens, pharmaceuticals. Errors may cause an inconvenience to Customers and patients if not handled appropriately. Errors may result in loss of laboratory Customer base.

• Driver must understand some laboratory specimens are irreplaceable. Driver will ensure that specimens are handled correctly to ensure safe delivery to laboratory.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Two + years vehicle driving experience.

• Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and have an excellent driving record.

• Proficient in providing good customer service. Good working knowledge of metro Madison area.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One + year truck/van driving experience.

• Prior customer service experience

• 1+ year in medical setting.
